re: Glad people are too stupid/lazy to fix stuff and leave it on the curb for the garbage man

I'm putting a busted arse dresser on the curb later today. Feel free to stop by.

Neighbors were moving and left a brand new Speed Queen clothes dryer at the curb with a note attached saying 'works fine'. Jr and I snatched it up, tested it, and he sold it on FB Marketplace for $400 the next day. He and the buyer made out well.

Like if that’s your thing good for you and all, but he had to ride around and pick all that stuff up, then buy all the parts, then spend time fixing it all, then he has to have the type of people looking to buy a used repaired dryer off marketplace over to his house and haggle with them.
Even if he sells it all for 300 bucks, he’s barely making any profit and spending a ton of his time. The people he is trying to mock got their old item hauled off for free and have moved on.
I like to fish. I spend an inordinate amount of money and time fishing. It has NEVER paid me a dime. If the OP enjoys tinkering with shite and can make that hobby pay for itself he is far wiser than the average fisherman.

Why don’t you and Lamont just say thank you?

Put my old matress out this morning. Oak rd in Prairevile. Get it before trash comes.

I'm putting 2 pretty nice end tables on the curb soon. Carbs are ok.
I picked up a king sized head and foot board and rails directly next door to us last summer and spent about $30 on paint and about 8 hours of labor refinishing it and sold it on Marketplace for $2700. I make a pretty good living but that is $325 an hour ($100 for paint and sand paper and wood filler) for doing something I enjoy doing. If that is poor I am poor as poor gets...and happy doing it.
I can, as we speak, go on marketplace this morning and find a washer and dryer free within 10 miles of the house, go get it, hook it up, if it doesn't work spend about 20 minutes finding out why, go to Fox appliance and get the parts for around $50 and have it back on marketplace by 4 or so in the evening and it will be sold within 3 days for $500. I may have 3 hours and $50 in it so I would make $150 an hour, cash, doing something I enjoy doing. I make slightly less than that in salary and benefits at work doing something I enjoy but not as much as tinkering with machines and furniture. It ain't for everyone, I know many of you have to work 60 hours a week to make ends meet. I feel for you, I use to have to work 80 and 90. I work 40 or less now and make a pretty good living....but I still enjoy tinkering with shite and figuring out what is wrong with it. If you lack the skill and you do not have the time because you work 60 hours a week there is some debate about who is poor....

LOL. I actually thought about returning the 18” chainsaw fixed and tell the guy I’m keeping the 20” just to see his reaction

I live in a retirement town and you wouldn't believe the sh*t old white people throw away. I flip old mowers and weedeaters all the time. My generator came from the curb and still had the lowes tags on it.
Most old people nowadays have no idea what it's like to work to fix something instead of just spending money on something new and throwing the old away.
Most people do not have the skills required to fix things. Not a bad thing, its just the way of the world. It is amazing how many people find it a sign of wealth to lack basic mechanical skills and enough leisure time to fix shite....that is some weird, twisted logic. Take a look at how those wealthy frickers drive to work in the mornings....its obvious they will be run off if they are late because they are endangering their lives to get there on time. That is, in my opinion, about as poor as poor gets but lots of people live with it....

I once changed the pad in a Swifter broom all by myself rather than throw it out.
I am sooooo cool.
I am sooooo cool.

Truth be told if I knew how to repair small engines and replace carbs, belts, chains, hoses and the like- I’d have a shite ton of crap in the garage.

but now have a bunch of shite they never needed that actually costs them time and money instead. Congrats I guess?
I actually needed a 20” chainsaw. The one I currently have is too small for some jobs in my yard so yes, congrats to me. I spent $20 and 1 hour of my time to swap it for a $300 used price chainsaw with a new chain.
I knew a guy that did only washers and dryers for a side hustle. I think that would have higher margins than lawn equipment.

I'm with you and OP. I've picked up things that I was curious what was wrong with them and if I could repair. A homesite chainsaw comes to mind. Neighbor sat it out on the curb with a new bar and chain. All it needed was a primer bulb and fuel line. I call it my lil limb cutter. I didn't need it because I have a Stihl farm boss, but I enjoyed the challenge of diagnosing and making it run again.
The people claiming they are too busy to do it and villifying anyone who does as a poor bastard on meth are most likely either working 60+ hours a week to pay for their shite or they are playing golf or fishing in their leisure time and do not have the skills to repair shite. Nothing wrong with any of that but if a person enjoys fixing shite, has the time and the skills and can make their hobby pay for itself or nearly so I can't imagine judging them for their hobby.

LOL No. While I am a good mechanic, I do realize when the juice isn’t worth the squeeze.

Put it on the curb and I’ll pick it up and do it.

Are you retarded? It’s the OP’s judgmental attitude that people have an issue with for the most part.
And how do you know that the hobby pays for itself? One guy posted about making $2200 in a year.

congratulations
i sent an email the other day and made 2k…
I had a side hustle from 2010-2013 as the super cargo for a shipping company in Jacksonville that required me to send an email a week that paid $2000 a month in foreign earned income. I still picked up shite and fixed it because It is a hobby. I enjoy wood working, I would guess I have about $15k in tools, all of which were bought when I would pick up a piece of furniture and repaired it and refinished it. Also perfected the skills to do so efficiently in the process. The posters here claiming their time is too valuable are completely discounting the fact that it is an enjoyable hobby for some...and some of us have been smart enough to get to a place where it takes 40 hours a week or less to make our nut....

I had one that I replaced the carb on and it would crank and idle but not run. I scoped the cylinder and it was scarred just enough to crank and idle but not run at speed. I could have replaced the cylinder for about $20 but I bought an electric weed whacker instead. I gave the gas one to my BIL who did replace the cylinder and sold it for $100. He also enjoys tinkering with shite and has time because he ain't stressed out over his career or busy playing pasture pool or taking his kid to travel ball...

I had a neighbor give me one and I have been turning it into a remote control lawn mower. I works but it has glitches LOL. Its a fun project though...
