This, but get his name engraved on it so he doesn’t accidentally get it mixed up with his dad’s.

Pair of Alden 403 boots, will last him decades. Good with jeans or slacks. Remember to size down half or whole size as they run large. Can be resoled indefinitely so theoretically good for life.

Just don't roll your jeans like this tool.

A relative got me a very nice luggage set for a graduation gift and I used it until I was about 35. Great gift imo.

Seconded.

Another option is Suze Orman's The Money Book for the Young, Fabulous & Broke. Read it cover to cover, and it helped me avoid a lot of the problems my friends got into.

He’ll be looking again in 2 years when they let him go because he’s not on the partner track or he leaves because it’s a grind and he’ll have earned the experience to add to his résumé.

I would suggest a donation in his name to The Human Fund or $500 in cash. He knows what he needs better than we do and at that dollar value, you don’t want to buy something he really doesn’t want or will never use. The cash will help buy a little peace of mind, too.

This is helpful. A nice professional messenger bag or backpack would be appropriate, or if he’ll be traveling a lot for work you can get nice-ish carry-on for $500.

(I was thinking Tumi but it looks like their prices have doubled since we bought ours a few years ago.)
