Sounds like she had a good relationship with her dad, that's a good thing overall. Show some patience and give her a hug or get a new girlfriend if you're not into the emotional types. Not sure that you're going to change anything with tough love.

That is the solution to everything, apparently.

When it first happened I was compassionate...but when I found out the dude died 12 years ago, I'm all like get over it. Yeah it may be sad, but her mom's been porking another dude for the last 9 years...she's not all boo hooing when she sees a Klondike bar and says "those were his favorite...wahhhhh...wahhhh" How do you "help" someone move on emotionally after 12 f'ing years?
Couple of questions.
1. How old are both of you?
2. Have you lost a parent yet?

Obviously, first step is posting pics of her on the OT.

same here, and there's not a day that goes by that I don't think of him, and sometimes get a little sad, but I keep that to myself, don't make a play for attention with it

I was getting ready to give you shite, but yeah, 12 years is too much time to have frequent breakdowns.

She's an attention whore sociopath. This is what they do. I imagine she also asks for prayers for every little thing on Facebook "my allergies are soooo bad. Prayers please". DO NOT MARRY!!! Unless you want to spend the rest of your life dealing with an attention whoring drama queen that will always hold your mistakes against you.

This guy is 100% correct.

This. My grandad was my best friend and confidant growing up. With the nature and travel of my dad's work and my grandparents proximity he was in a lot of ways a father figure to me. He passed away 14 years ago when I was a Sr in HS. There are still times when I hear a song from his funeral or something reminds me of him where I will bite the inside of my cheek as my eyes get warm remembering that man.
OP, hopefully one day you have a child or someone that thinks of you when you have been gone for a decade or more.

He's her fricking dad.
Also, am I the only one that regularly hits the bookmark button when trying to downvote?

That's normal. I don't think that's what he's talking about.

Find out what cologne her dad wore

Amen...there is nothing like the bond between a daddy, and I mean an active in their life daddy, and their daughter...there will hopefully always be a soft spot for him in her future. If the OP can't handle that then yes it is time to set the GF free. If/when the OP has a daughter then maybe he will be more understanding of that void the GF feels.

My dad died 45 years ago. I was 3 and have no memories of him. I often cry when I think about things that I missed out on with him and things I never got to experience with him.
My mom died in August. I cry when I think of her sometimes, too.
You're a fricking dick.
