Yeah I don’t suggest going into a store/bar/restaurant and making a scene about the law allowing you to do something. Being allowed by law doesn’t mean the business can’t refuse.

Instead of 16 paragraphs of crap, this thread could’ve been condensed to this:

“Has anyone ever been denied buying alcohol if someone with them was under 21?”

That’s it. Idk why you feel the need to type a novels worth of text with a fake situations to ask a simple question.

She doesn't drink. I know ya'll won't believe that but her 24 year old sister would rat her out in a heartbeat and she has told us that the little one doesn't drink. So she knows nothing about bars and the laws about drinking. And neither do I

Well yeah, but you can not drink and still end up at bars. Varsity to see a concert, Tigerland because your friends drag you there, etc. I’m impressed if she’s 20 and has never been into a bar. I imagine that’s a dream for a parent.

It's happened to me before when I was traveling and had jut renewed my DL so I only had the paper copy. I used my passport as ID while traveling but I don't carry it around with me for fear of losing it. Really annoying to not be able to rely on common sense.

Devil's advocate but I believe the laws have changed enough that the person serving is liable with pretty stiff penalties. It's a b.s. technicality but it would be enforced if someone from ABC was in there. No server is going to be able to pay a huge fine and definitely not when they are suspended.

He knows he can make posts like this simpler but chooses not to because it annoys people. Oweo enjoys the berating because it prolongs what would be a 3-4 reply long thread

The only time I was denied the purchase of alcohol while being of age was when I tried to purchase beer before noon on a Sunday. It was at a Winn Dixie in Mobile, AL and it was literally 11:45AM. Not sure if it was a store policy or law, but the whole situation had me befuddled.

I used to live in a house off Perkins and frequented a gas station nearby to buy beer. One of the ladies knew me by name but wouldn't sell if I didn't have ID. One day she wouldn't sell to this youngish man and the guy goes "are you serious mamma? You know how old I am". HAHA She wouldn't sell to her own son without ID.

Many, maybe all of the places in Alabama, that have Sunday sales it starts at noon. I know the liquor store near my house doesn’t even open until noon on Sunday. It is a county by county thing but the noon on Sunday may be state wide.

The only time I’ve been denied was after my honeymoon. Our drivers license in alabama is for 4 years. Got my learners permit at 15 and when you got your license at 16 they just took the learners permit off of it and took a new picture. So it expired when I was 19. And again at 23. I got married a couple of weeks after I turned 23. The temporary paper license was apparently good enough for me to leave the country on my honeymoon but not good enough to buy a beer at dinner in Destin. I get being more stringent with the spring break crowds and not taking a temp paper copy, especially from out of state, but I had my old expired license in the wallet too and they wouldn’t serve me even with that.

The problem with the expired DL issue is this: the law states that you have to have a valid ID to buy alcohol. This also puts the vendor at risk, a risk many aren’t willing to take. You could be 60, sitting in a bar drinking, and if it gets raided by the ABC Board, that bar will get written up for it. So, if you don’t have a valid ID don’t get pissed at the store, get off your arse and get your DL renewed.

No they wouldn't. If that's the case why do convenience stores often have those signs that say "we card anyone under 40"?

Yes. Happened to me and a buddy of mine once after playing golf. Me, him and his son (who turned 21 that day) stopped for a six pack. Chick behind the counter told us no because he was a minor. We even showed her his driver’s license, confirming it was his 21 b/day. Said she would call the police if we didn’t leave. We had already had a few while golfing, so we just left
