My son's baseball team does the Angel Tree kid thing. My wife and I always give $50 towards the gifts for the child. Most parents that i am friends with give the same amount. After it is all said and done i'm sure that child has a wonderful Christmas.
It is trashy to go to the dollar store to buy gifts for needy children. Doing that give them the feeling of helping someone but without the commitment of costing them anything.

Mr 1999's boss commented that his Angel tree kid had a list of about $300 worth of stuff. Whaaa? We're probably not even spending that much on our own kids.

We get names from the school counselors. They can give us more background and makes it less likely that shitty parents will sell them.
This years really got me for some reason when the younger kids all asked for food and clothes. That's it. And the two older kids in high school asked for gifts for the younger ones. Said they'd never gotten gifts for Christmas and they'd like for their younger siblings to have at least one Christmas with gifts.
We know the back story and know the gifts will stay with the kids. They are getting hooked the frick up this year. People getting shitty gifts for Christmas kids really pisses me off btw. Especially when they do the shite in the OP and grandstand.

Sounds good. Instead of bitching about someone else's generosity, go buy 10 $30 toys and donate to children and show em how it's done.

We're doing this (not dollar store) but they gave us such shite information about the kid that we didn't know what to do.
He needed "any and all clothes" and likes basketball. I think 14 or so, inner city Atlanta. Hope he likes random Nike stuff.

I'll say my piece. I also did an angle tree gift. The bible says what ever you do, do it in secrete and the Lord shall reward you openly. Do it openly for everyone to see you and you have your reward.
I would say to you maybe you should concentrate on your own opertunities to help others in need instead of complaining how she's using hers.

We do the adopt a kid thing every Christmas and our rule is that we spend 125% of what we spent on our own child. When we have another child we will add another Angel Tree kid. To each their own.

I dont know if you have looked around you lately while your in public but there are lots of awful awful parents around. Man its a shame where this country is going and that its mostly because the parents are not the people who shape thier kids but the television and others that have no business directing a childs mind. They are everywhere, every race, every background. There are just lots of terrible people out there.
