Getting a recall notice on a part on our car that I expensively replaced a year before

Am I SOL on that, or is there some way I can have the manufacturer reimburse me for the repair if I can provide proof of payment?
I'm assuming SOL, but felt like checking.

If you have the documentation or went to a mechanic shop (they'll have the documents for something a year ago), you should be able to submit for reimbursement.

Correct, Toyota sent me a check for $600+ a few years ago for some defected egr valves or whatever they were that I had paid to replace...I had all my documentation of this.

if you went to dealer and had it done yes
if you did it yourself, then nope you are SOL
if you had a non dealer shop do it then "maybe" you can file for a claim and get a refund

Company sells defective part. Buyer fixes said part. What about the buyer fixing it alleviates the company’s responsibility for selling a defective part?

This, and if you put a better, beefier part in through a non dealer - they probably wont cover it as infuriating as that is.

If you have a receipt, they will reimburse you. Or at least Ford reimbursed me for a problem that they eventually recalled. Took like 2 months, though.

Yeah I've always heard that if you're repairing an issue widespread enough that it suggests a recall may be coming eventually, get it done at the dealer.
Following that has gotten me reimbursed twice.
