I'll preface this by saying that this young lady is a student in the same district as my kids, but I do not personally know her or her family. We do have mutual friends, hence how I came to be aware of this terrible event. She was attacked by two pit bulls while walking in her neighborhood (Friday, I believe?). I'm linking the FB page where the family is providing updates as well as a fundraising page that has been established for her. She has a LONG, brutal road ahead in her recovery and I know the family will appreciate anything you might be able to offer. We've got a lot of good folks here who always seem to come through bigly in times of need, so I wanted to share in an effort to help this family.

Thanks so much!

Latest update with more detail about what all happened:

We have been waiting until all immediately family knew the extent of Joslyn’s injuries, and we were just prepared to share. Everyone has now been notified and we are at a point to where we can emotionally be more open. As we have previously shared Joslyn’s trachea was crushed and lacerated. She had surgery to repair it but it will take weeks to heal. In the meantime a trach has been out in place and she is on a vent to breathe for her. Those murderous dogs also grabbed her hair hard enough to pull her entire scalp off. She only has a small portion of skin left on her head. At this moment she does not have any hair left. She will never have her hair again. There may be implants and things that can be done but it be over a year before those discussions can even begin! She is aware that her hair is missing. In addition, they ripped her left ear off. The doctors have reattached the ear, but they are not sure if it is viable. Only time will tell. Nor do they know if she will be able hear out of that ear. Her face has multiple lacerations with nerve damage. We don’t know the extent of this damage at this time. We have been told that this may effect her smile, her blinking and other facial expressions. She has multiple other lacerations, bruises, scraps and such all over her body. She also has asphalt in the tips of her fingers where it appears she tried to claw her way away from those dogs. She currently has pulled her tube out that was holding her vocal cords in place. They tried to do a scope this morning but was unsuccessful. They are discussing options to try to do another scope. Also, new today she has a blood clot in her jugular that they are looking at to see if it is ok or if it needs treatment. There is still so much that we don’t know about her injuries, but we know that God knows and that can heal her!! We are continued to be overwhelmed by the love, support and prayers that we are receiving. We are trying to respond to all of the texts, messages, calls, and questions that we can. Although we may not respond we are reading all of your comments, and they mean the world to us. Please continue to pray for our sweet girl. Also, pray for my mom as she is the only care giver allowed in. She is getting tired as you can imagine. We have been asked about flowers and such, but at this time Joslyn is not allowed to have anything like that. We do appreciate the thought. We have debated on whether or not to share a picture of her. We have decided on the picture below as you can see some of the damage but it is not too graphic. Please continue to pray!!

I'm always surprised that some parent hasn't killed an owner of the dogs after this kind of attack.

It’d be hard not to.

I’d certainly take that shite to court though. Especially if they were out, not on a leash, etc.

Have the dogs and their owner(s) been euthanized yet?

Poor sweet girl. Said a prayer for her and her family. I’d sue those owners into oblivion.

You have to have a license to breed dogs in GA, too. Just saying.

I believe the dogs were found and euthanized, but I'm not sure that anyone knows who owned them. Apparently, she has walked the neighborhood regularly for a some time and these dogs have never been seen before.

ETA: I just realized you asked if the owners had been euthanized..... Honestly, I have no idea how I would handle this if I knew who owned them, but man.........this just breaks my heart.

I scolded a man in public yesterday when he was walking his pit bull around outside a shopping mall. I was sitting outside at a cafe, and I saw this dude further down the sidewalk. I got out of my seat, opened the little gate to leave the cafe, and walked over and ripped the guy to shreds. Told him that there are innocent children around and that he has no fricking business walking that piece of shite killing machine around. The man cursed me out, which brought attention to the scene and attracted a security guard to the confrontation. The guard immediately took my side ans said that only a person with very little judgement would even PONDER bringing such a beast into a public space like a fricking Saturday afternoon shopping mall. The guard kicked the man out of the area after taking his picture, and assured me that he would make sure the man is banned from the mall for the foreseeable future.

As I walked back to the cafe, I could already hear people cheering at my altruistic and humane deed. The amount of clapping appeared to be far more bountiful than the small number of people sitting outside of the cafe could muster with their hands, so I assumed that someone must have gone inside to tell the interior staff about what was going on. Feeling proud and worthy of applause, instead of simply sitting back at my seat, I chose to open the door, get on the floor, everybody walk the dinosaur.

Bull shite. You've never tried to kill a dog, let alone a random pit bull out and about. Tough guy.

Absolutely terrifying. I go walking with my daughter all the time in our neighborhood and I’ll never not think about this story for future walks.

Outside of bringing a gun to shoot these bastards, how do we protect ourselves and kids while getting some exercise?

Why not bring a gun? You’re wearing one everywhere else, aren’t you?

It might save your life. Best I can offer is be armed, one way or another. Had a cop tell me about bear spray. He says no dog wants any part of that, but who knows. I’d have a gun at least.

I've raised dogs my entire life and well aware that any breed will react, attack, bite, etc., if scared, threatened, provoked, or feels the need to defend itself.

Here is the difference between pit bulls and ALL OTHER BREEDS. First, the statistics are clear... ..even though the pit bull breed accounts for only about 5% of all dogs, they account for nearly 70% of all human deaths caused by dogs. That alone should be unacceptable but I believe the breed should be scrutinized much more closely because of this:

While all breeds will bite if provoked or tormented to the point of pain or feeling endangered, other dogs stop their warning bites to their perceived offender once the threat ends. Only the pit bull is prone sustain this attack well past what is necessary to defend itself and will do so until death. Most insurance companies will not insure a residence were there is a pit bull. There is simply a risk of a breed that will murder humans that isn't there with others.

I actually have a 2 year old pit bull I recently rescued and she is the most beautiful, affectionate dog.. the sweetest creature you could imagine. I still shudder to think of what she is capable of and tendencies that lie hidden in her genetics. Regardless of this dog's good qualities, it's time to begin to prohibit the furthering of the breed.
