Does anybody have any expertise in these or in similar art in general? I have the opportunity to buy several from the estate of a friend's deceased relative. Some are blue dogs some are not. They all appear to be from numbered series and are autographed.

What's a decent approach to determining value?

Any chance they will go up in price over the next decade or so?

How much have they gone up in the past 20 years? Since he died?

Are there any obvious ones to stay away from?

TIA

Get a professional appraisal and agree to subtract the cost of appraisal from the purchase price.

Are there any particular ones you have the opportunity to buy? What price range? They are for the most part readily available to buy at their market value so it’s all about what price you find them at.

One is the LSU jersey blue dog. Side by side Mardi Gras dogs. And one is like a lady in front of a Bentley in front of a plantation.

The LSU jersey one is very common. The foundation gives them to education charities to auction off.

The Mardi Gras ones are popular due to them being Mardi Gras. Not sure on specific value but <$1k is probably a great buy.

Not sure on the Bentley one. I feel like I’ve seen it must I don’t recall any activity on it at the local auction houses recently.

You need to do your homework and research exactly what is being sold. Rodrigue prints range from $55 (8x10 signed & numbered) to thousands of dollars for limited number, silk screens, original oils, early editions with artists remarque. Tons of giclee and reproductions have entered the States from China in the last 10 years. Very hard to tell the difference unless appraised/inspected by an expert. After Rodrigue's death (10 years ago), the family started commercializing the name and reproducing original prints. IMO, the value has gone down. Etsy has various size acrylic reproductions starting at $25. Today, anybody can afford a Rodrigue reproduction for $25 ~ $75. The custom framing will cost more than some prints.

No print, even if autographed, is going to be worth very much. Probably not even worth getting an appraiser involved.
