A mile down the road is a seafood shop that I've gotten to know pretty well. I was talking with them about grouper, it turns out they have the highest permitted catch in the state, and so their prices are the lowest. They then told me every restaurant in the area that buys from them. Any restaurant nearby that sells a grouper dish that doesn't buy from them is lying about it being grouper. Not surprising but the hugely popular tourist restaurant is not a customer of theirs. Nor is the 2nd largest seafood place. Neither is a place that I go to often because there are better options. Ultimately, there is so much fakery with shrimp and fish that you just have to ask yourself "Is this food good". That's what counts. Places that the locals support will likely have the most legitimate seafood.
