Genetic testing finds imported shrimp mislabeling at 27% of Baton Rouge restaurants

In the latest round of testing, 22 shrimp dishes were sampled. Six, or 27%, contained imported, farm-raised shrimp that researchers said were misrepresented. Sixteen dishes, or 73%, were confirmed to contain American wild-caught shrimp.

Could be the wholesaler or fishermen are mislabeling the skrimps.
Probably a combo of everyone in the process.

At the only decent fish minger in Central Ohio they were selling "fresh gulf shrimp."
I asked for a large quantity, and they gave me a frozen box of shrimp from the Gulf of Ecuador.

Hope they follow up with a report on all the places selling basa “catfish” and saying it’s local or something like that on the menu.

Correct. Restaurants might be crooked like Mary Mahoney's or their supplier might be lying to them.

Why can't this be addressed more successfully?
Is it politicians interested in talking a big game but not in actually getting investigators on it and imposing some big fines? Are the investigators taking bribes to not report?
Seems like it shouldn't be that impossible to police if the will is there?
