General Motors shares hits record on news of their electric Silverado pickup

Investors like EVs....which means that's going to be the focus of car companies now. ICE vehicles will not receive as much investment from the big automakers.
This thread is about how automakers are being rewarded by investors for focusing on electric vehicles. But there is more about the EV Silverado here:

Turns out they've been working on it for a while. 400 miles of range and the same hardware that's going in the Hummer EV, Cadillac Lyriq, etc. GM is also going to build vehicles on this chassis with the Ultium battery system for Honda and Acura starting next year.
The truck was spotted in the background of a press conference 3-4 months ago:

GM shares hit new record on plans for electric Chevy Silverado pickup
CNBC
DETROIT — Shares of General Motors closed at a new record Tuesday after the automaker confirmed plans to produce an all-electric Chevrolet Silverado pickup at an assembly plant for EVs that’s under construction in Detroit.
The automaker’s stock closed up 1.5% at $61.94 a share, setting a new closing record, after hitting an intraday high of $63.44 earlier Tuesday. Both the closing and intraday prices were all-time records since the automaker emerged from bankruptcy at the tail end of the Great Recession and started publicly trading again in 2010. GM’s market cap is $89.25 billion.
The performance of GM’s stock this year, up roughly 50%, has been driven by a steady array of announcements related to electric vehicles. It’s also validating comments made last month by GM CEO Mary Barra about the stock’s future potential.
“I think as the market begins to see all of the assets and resources General Motors brings to this transformation, I think we’re just at the beginning of where you’ll see GM’s stock move,” she said in an online discussion March 11 during The Economic Club of New York’s Women in Business event.
The electric Silverado is part of a previously announced $2.2 billion investment in the plant to produce an array of its next-generation EVs beginning later this year with an all-electric GMC Hummer pickup. Other planned vehicles for the facility include the recently unveiled Hummer EV SUV and an autonomous multi-passenger shuttle known as the Cruise Origin.

General Motors just confirmed it’s making an all-electric version of the Chevy Silverado pickup truck, the company’s bestselling vehicle. The new truck will be powered by GM’s new EV battery and will offer around 400 miles on a full charge.
The company did not immediately say when the electric Silverado will go on sale, but GM president Mark Reuss said at an event on Tuesday that the company will also make commercial fleet-focused versions of the truck. GM has been teasing an electric Silverado for months now.

How long does it take to charge an EV?

The new batteries they are using in the Hummer EV (which the Silverado will have) can get 100 miles of additional range in 10 minutes of charging. So in the case of the Silverado, you can drive for about 400 miles, stop for 10 minutes at one of the public chargers, and eat while you get another 100 miles of range, etc.
Or you can charge it slower (overnight) at home if it's a daily commuter.

All about those ESG ratings these days.

No thanks I like stopping at the gas station and filling up in a matter of minutes. It’ll be junk. All GM is making these days is junk.

Where is the infrastructure to charge your vehicle? I only know that Tesla has public locations to charge.

A lot of people don’t understand what ESG means but those 3 letters will start with the companies first then us personally.

Well someone, somewhere is gonna offer ICE trucks. That’s the one I’m gonna be driving.
So they can stuff their ETs right up their government funded, greasy assholes.
Besides- if it’s a 1500 Silverado. The transmission is gonna blow chunks.

You can get about 100 miles of range out of the Ultium batteries that GM/LG Chem developed in about 10 minutes. Likely far more range in lighter cars.

Ford is up around +50% from pre-pandemic levels. Tesla has a crazy valuation. All the new retail traders love EVs but everything seems overhyped, IMO.

Dear GM,
Please don't make it look gay like the other electric vehicles. Thanks.

Awesome.
I honestly had no idea that charging had gotten that efficient.

Currently being built, lots of power generation companies like Entergy and TVA are partnering with companies that build chargers to get them installed in their service areas. Electric coops are doing the same.
Lots of other companies besides Tesla have built chargers all over already. Chargepoint stock has made me money in the past.

are you saying an electric vehicles transmission is going to be terrible?
because EVs don't have transmissions...

They really need to standardize chargers for all EV's.
If computer manufacturers can standardize USB, automakers can do so with chargers

What will people like farmers do when all trucks are electric? Gonna recharge when you’re driving back and forth between 5,000 acres trying to harvest in middle of nowhere?

lots of GM dealerships along the sides of interstates. I can imagine they would be happy to place a few chargers on their property if the price is right

Gm, Tesla and all the ev guys would be smart to adapt a universal type charger. Maybe they are interchangeable, I really don’t know. But a universal charger and station that could service most EV’s regardless of brand would go along way
