That's not, "the 80s."

I am what you would call an Xennial.

I look at the internet as the dividing line. If you made it all the way through high school before the internet revolution took off, you’re Gen X.

In 1980, this was a 40 year old car…
Today, this is a 40 year old car…
In 1980, this was a 40 year old fighter…
Today, this is a 40* year old fighter

The worst part of looking back is realizing you didn't appreciate it when you were there. It's typically only with the lens of nostalgia that you realize that life isn't meant to be lived for a future date, but for the moment.

I knew the 90s were going to be some of the best times, but I'm a UF grad and Spurrier was crushing it. So...

I had Dinardo all 4 years at LSU. My football highlight as a student was probably beating #1 Florida in 1997.

Agree to all of this! I think everyone should understand
don’t waste your time always searching for those wasted years.
Face up, make your stand
And realize you're living in the golden years.

This is what my ex-wife used to tell me.
Then I retired at 57, and she'll have to work for the rest of her life.
Planning. It works.

Would give almost anything to go back to 1995. What an awesome time that was

You mean people born in the 80s?
Yeah those are boomers
I think it's interesting to look back HALF of a generation. I'm a bit jealous of those on the timeline of American Graffiti characters whose kids were early Gen X. I'm late Gen X but those early Gen Xers who were in HS & college during the 80s got to knowingly live through the 80s boom. Hell, the only thing i remember from 1980 is my l parents talking about my babysitter and her boyfriend spoiling booze on their rug...I have ZERO memory of the Miracle on Ice. I know those after my class were the first to have to deal with shite like mandatory agendas and hat bans. I also was able to make it through college before it cost the equivalent of a house. But I feel like we were the first of those who incrementally lost the freedoms those in the 60s, 70s, and early 80s had.
Unlike my kids, I can still enjoy sitting outside in the cool spring mid-day breeze reading or just observing nature. It's only better if I've got a cigar and a glass of port nearby.

I would go back to this year in a heartbeat. I probably had the most fun in my life from 1995 to 1997. The 90s were such an awesome and unique decade.

Those people in their late 40's and 50's back in the day, they looked like hell.
THIS. I just turned 50 and other than the shock of how the number sounds to me 50 years old in 2025 is a FAR FAR cry from 50 years old in 1985. I've been living the single life for a few years and am on a couple of dating apps and it is shocking how attractive women are now in their 40s and 50s compared to women of the same age in our parents and grandparents generation. Even with taking filters in account women in this age range that you meet in person look FAR younger and more attractive than when our parents and grandparents generation was the same age. I looked as good or better now and throughout my 40s as I did in my late 20s and 30s.
Now that I think about it. I think Gen X was the first generation that came of age when cigarette smoking practically vanished from about the time we were in high school and onward. It was so incredibly widespread and common among our parents and grandparents generation and that along with advances in modern medicine explains at least part of the reason that Gen Xers look so much younger thatn their parents and grandparents did at the same relative age.

I am 53 and have had 6 surgeries and 9 procedures performed in the last 14 months. Before that I had never been in a hospital or even had a stitch. Yeah it sucks getting older but I am doing ok and now retired.

Never heard this before... What is Jones?
I was born in December '63, always considered myself a Gen Xer. I graduated HS in '82, and in college throughout the 80's.
Some say the birth year from '60-'64 was in that gray area... Boomers came about when people returned from the war and had kids. My dad was 10 when the war ended. Never considered myself a boomer, my uncle was a boomer, he was born in 48.
