There will be a lot of casualties specifically in Seoul including probably many Americans.
Would there really be many deaths though? I don't think you would need to wage a full scale war to defeat them. Kill Kim Jong Un and his military and political leaders clandestinely, and the population has no one left to fight for. Hell, just killing Un could be enough. I seriously doubt his hierarchy are very loyal to him. Just afraid to speak out against him.

The US has been warning North Korea for nearly 25 years. Clinton, Bush, Obama and now Trump.
It looks like we're all talk when it comes to North Korea.

Regardless of the speed of American response there is no way some artillery from North Korea doesn't make it into Seoul which is a city of ten million people with reportedly 15k American civilians not including American military.
It would certainly be over for the North rather quickly but I would think it's not going out on a limb to believe they will get a punch or two in at the very start. And a city that dense it won't take much for a large number of casualties.

Much easier said than done in a country like N Korea that is so isolationist. Not to mention, an unprovoked assassination of a world leader, even one like Kim Jong Un, would draw a lot of criticism and blow back from every member nation of the UN. North Korea would absolutely lose any armed conflict with the US relatively quickly, especially if China totally backs away, but they could make US allies pay pretty dearly before the end. That doesn't even take into consideration if he goes with a nuclear option against someone like Japan.

North Korea has a conventional military. Exactly what we're built to fight. Apples and oranges.

This is why I think some of this is blown out of proportion. NK is 1/6 the size of Texas. What exactly would it take to knock them off the map? A few planes? Do they even have an Air Force? We would really just need to attack Pyongyang.
If the US knocks out most of their government buildings and puts a dent in their military, it's not like they are a wealthy nation and that would pretty much destroy them financially. It would be hard for them to rebuild and to get their military back to the point it was before taking a hit to their resources.
Also, is it me or does it seem like this time of year, when congress is on break and the president is on vacation, the news starts reporting stories about North Korea?
Maybe I am wrong... but I just think it is a waste of time to worry about them.

Sure it is.
We want to get into NK for the same reason we're in the Middle East for 16 years and counting. We have no intentions of fighting or defeating an enemy, conventional or otherwise.
Oh, and Vietnam says hello.

We want to exploit the vast mineral wealth of North Korea and assume responsibility for a humanitarian crisis?
