NK is 1/6 the size of Texas. What exactly would it take to knock them off the map? A few planes?

How big do you think explosions are?

We want to get into NK for the same reason we're in the Middle East for 16 years and counting. We have no intentions of fighting or defeating an enemy, conventional or otherwise.

We want to exploit the vast mineral wealth of North Korea and assume responsibility for a humanitarian crisis?

Assassinate Kim, and his military will lay down arms for a few MREs.
A piece.

Regardless of the speed of American response there is no way some artillery from North Korea doesn't make it into Seoul which is a city of ten million people with reportedly 15k American civilians not including American military.

It would certainly be over for the North rather quickly but I would think it's not going out on a limb to believe they will get a punch or two in at the very start. And a city that dense it won't take much for a large number of casualties.

Well, NK launching an attack would be the only reason we would use force, unless Trump falls off the deep end. So, yeah zero casualties would not be possible.

I'm just curious as to how loyal his subjects really are. There are many North Koreans who have suffered greatly under his leadership. But I have no doubt he has his fanatics who will fall on a sword for him.

Much easier said than done in a country like N Korea that is so isolationist. Not to mention, an unprovoked assassination of a world leader, even one like Kim Jong Un, would draw a lot of criticism and blow back from every member nation of the UN. North Korea would absolutely lose any armed conflict with the US relatively quickly, especially if China totally backs away, but they could make US allies pay pretty dearly before the end. That doesn't even take into consideration if he goes with a nuclear option against someone like Japan.

I would think an assassination attempt, even at this point, could be considered provoked. He has threatened to use nukes. Not something to be taken lightly. But, I'm leaning with you. The U.N. would not like that. Not that they would do anything to us, anyway.

As far as China goes, I think they would take our side before NK any day. They rely on us economically, we've had a peaceful coexistence for fifty years. Seems silly they would back NK, even if they do care for them as a Communist power.

There are a lot of interviews with defectors on YouTube. According to them Kim has been unpopular from the very beginning because of his age and his tendency to purge those around him hasn't helped his image. Information from the outside world is also starting to flow in due to an explosion in cell phones and a huge underground network of USB drives filled with western media. They also say that the regime is mostly despised but control is so total that a rebellion is almost impossible.

Well yea. But that doesnt matter much if we start a massive multi country war b/c Donnie and Kim up their dick measuring contest by launching nukes. China may dislike the road NK is going down but they'll be a frick ton more pissed at us if we start dropping nukes next door to them.

Rebellion is never impossible. Would be really damn hard, but they might have some friends south of the border who would be interested in toppling the regime.

I wonder how much longer before we see something brewing. Someone has to be planning something, if not a total revolution at some point.

Well I don't discount the deep end with this particular president by any means.

And I agree the majority would lay down but these people are brainwashed (at least we are led to believe they are) and things would happen very fast. I believe if North Korea lights the candle it will be everything at once-a massive "offensive" if you will which, while a suicide mission , will deliver a punch.

And from all I've read-the US doesn't have the intel to deliver a single strike to take him out in hopes the rest will immediately surrender. Remember we have been told for years "they are years away" and now these latest launches are a "uh oh maybe not years" situation. We don't know if they have an actual warhead or mini warhead but they have proven to be far more advanced than previously suspected and we do know they have the weapons in place to make a mess out of Seoul at the very least.
