Really wish they would just come out and say this. Or something along the lines of "unless a black man assaults a police officer he should be left alone to do whatever he wants."

That's what they really want. Oh, and all the tax money to go towards revitalizing an area that looks like goddamn Fallujah.

Hoping to change the demographics of employees from W to B in an area that is predominantly B by mandating additional restrictions on the applicants before and after hire is foolish.

If they want the demographics to change from W to B they need to look at why a majority B area has a disproportional B representation in that field. Are the minimum applicant requirements too difficult? Is the job underfunded? Are the working conditions not worth the pay? Do the employees feel adequate respect in the work place?

Increasing incentive and lowering restrictions on applicants would seem more likely beneficial to adjusting the demographics of employment.

That's an ignorant premise. I think they'd be more aggressive for not having to play the PC bs

Dear new recruits, not only do you get to draw the worst assignment on the force, you get to live there too! We don't even mind that the measure is unconstitutional.

Honestly, I don't think they want more black officers - they just want a policy that keeps white cops out. Some of them genuinely believe everything will be all hunky-dory if they just get left alone by the racist rednecks.

Community policing is an important practice, cops should know the areas they patrol. But the term is being thrown around right now as some sort of panacea by idiots who have no idea what they're talking about. Personally, I find it pretty impressive that someone can make it into their adult lives, and even on to city council, without having any friends in law enforcement or anyone with practical real world experience to inform policy decisions.

They are generally. Which makes this whole idea even more laughable. Police beatings and shootings would probably go up if anything.

But I would assume the same double standard would apply to black policemen that applies to other black on black crime. Turn a blind eye. It only matters if the cop is white...

I'm sure her friends in law enforcement aren't pale skinned LP'ers

Like I've said before, they're in for a huge wake up call. The black cops hate these thugs more than most whites do, and they have way more leeway when it comes to beating the shite out of one of their own.

The real solution is to just not commit crimes, but facts are racist.

Well someone has to be willing to do the job. It's not like they're getting paid handsomely to do so.

Any amount that the metro council makes is 10x too much.

So, how will a cop from the community handle a call about a man threatening people with a gun differently?

She brings forth a proposal with no evidence or data to support the changes, then states that anyone who doesn't agree with her as hypocritical? Is she changing the definition of words?

The funny thing is that there is an abundance of evidence showing this doesn't work. Just look down the street at New Orleans PD, for example.

Trashy people and teenagers think "hypocrite" is some big fancy word for "a-hole." I guarantee you she has no idea what the word means.

Can you imagine the outcry if a white council member stood up and said that he doesn't think black officers from outside of the parish can be good policemen? These bitches on the council would lose their minds.

It's hilarious that in the Business Report article she attacks Delgado for bringing up the 3 cops that were killed to oppose this, when she's using the Sterling shooting to push her bullshite proposal.

Their line of thinking is a white boy from LP wont understand the culture of a black man in BR. If "one of their own" had shown up that day to deal with Alton then he would have known he was just the friendly neighborhood CD man and things wouldn't have escalated.
