I just think this mentality is horrible. The fact that John Wayne Gacy who repents on his death bed for murdering countless people is somehow more worthy of heaven than Bill Gates, who has saved thousands of lives but just happens to be an atheist. Does anyone besides me realize how insane that sounds?
I agree, and I'm not an atheist.

So you're into forcing people into being saved...against their free will?
Receiving communion under mortal sin will not save you.
All the Chruch can do is communicate the normal way to salvation. The recipient needs accept it. It's a two way street.
Unfortunately most people reject the message. Mostly because they are filled with pride.

To be honest, that is the very definition of a Methodist...half-assed Catholic
Varies. Some Methodist congregations are quite conservative, Christ-centered and evangelical, thus nothing like the Catholic church.
But in general the Methodists are trending Episcopalian, while the Episcopalians are trending unitarian universalist.

How would they even know he was gay ... did he make some pronouncement?
It had nothing to do with being gay.
It had everything to do with announcing that he was in a SSM.

That'll learn em not to sin.

Then he wasn't Catholic and shouldn't have been "in line" anyway. If he was Catholic, he'd have known better. Going to church on Easter and Christmas and when your mom dies isn't Catholic.

right, but maybe if he received communion he would have started going to church more and miraculously stopped liking the penis?

Did you read the article? It appears some of the higher ups in the Catholic Church disagree with you

Catholics are outright anti-bringing folks in at this point.

Exactly, don't partake in the sacrament if you don't know the meaning, and then try and change it.
The priest would have gladly given him a blessing, probably still did

Well he doesn't even believe in heaven, so that's kinda an issue.

I read the article. And the higher ups are saying it was on this gay man to know better than to get in line. They say he should not have been in denied, but based on the teachings of the church, he should not have been in line.

Know how I know you aren't Catholic? The Catholic Church's "come as you are" policy is very welcoming.

Maybe they're just pro-standing up for beliefs and not buckling to the social issue du jour?

I'm referring to the tone of another poster, not this particular incident. It's not like the Catholic church isn't still home to a ton of SJWs anyway, so I'm not sure how much refusing to buckle they're doing.

So you are projecting the attitudes of a poster on TD to the Catholic Church? That makes sense.

Exactly how I handled it at my niece's wedding last year. Got in line, then crossed my arms and bowed my head for the blessing when it was my turn.
I did not run to the nearest media outlet to condemn the Church for refusing the Eucharist to me. Let the Catholics live by their rules, I'll live by my church's rules. Hopefully, we'll all get together in Heaven and have a grand ole time.
