The Catholics believe he is living in mortal sin and those living in unconfessed mortal sin cannot receive communion.

Because to the gay agenda SJW's, anything short of complete and total acceptance of the gay lifestyle is simply unacceptable.

I have not read this whole thread. But it sounds aloy like a church in my community. Placed a big write up in the paper about no homosexuals would be allowed in their church, that if they came they would be asked to leave, and that they are not welcome there. They went on to explain why, and that in the bible homosexual acts are not holy, and that they would not allow that in their church and would not accept it. It was about a page writeup. I made a post about it a couple months ago, alot of people thought i was trolling, but i was 100% serious. Its a local baptist church (and im baptist), but not my church.

I'm sorry

I admittedly have no idea how all the Catholic Church is ranked or whatever

I was just going by what I read in the article and it seemed that there might be some confusion within the Catholic Church on how to handle this, which if there is some confusion within the ranks, it would be understandable if there was confusion for a casual Catholic

ut who else did this priest deny communion to? Did he deny it to a ridiculously fat person for gluttony? How about the guy whose been living in his parents' basement for 15 years off of sloth? I think he should be an equal opportunity offender here if he's going after a gay guy.

Maybe the fat or slothful guy repented and confessed and are going to change? Neither of which are necessarily mortal sins. But you non-Catholics and atheists who are not well versed in the faith go ahead and pretend to know it all, which you have probably not researched outside of mommy and daddy putting you in a catholic school because LA public schools are awful.

FWIW, if it is publically announced that you're of a different faith, have been divorced and remarried, or excommunicated you can also be denied the eucharist. IF the priest knows you're living in sin and not repentant at all, then his duty is to deny you the Eucharist. Now if you confess and turn away from your sin, that's a different story.

A Eucharistic minister is basically not even any position in the church much less an expert on catholic dogma. Its actually funny that they even mentioned that. My grandmother was a Eucharistic minister. Anyone that is over 18 and is confirmed can be a Eucharistic minister.

Was he supposed to not show up at his mother's funeral simply because he was gay? It's not as if he directly murdered her or anything.

Of course he can attend the funeral. However, he should have not gone up to receive communion, or he could've asked for a blessing instead of communion.

Simple fact..

You are not supposed to receive communion if you are married outside the church.

If I tried to receive communion from my priest before my marriage was blessed then I FULLY expect that I would have been denied. Why? Because my priest KNEW about it because I was in the process of having my marriage blessed. Had he not known I would expect that I could receive it like anyone else. But that would be on me.

That church is very much in the wrong. For starters, a Church should not start banning people based on the fact they've sinned. If they started doing this, the pews would be empty every Sunday seeing how we've all sinned. In God's eyes, me lusting after some almost naked chick in a OT "WYHI" thread is no better than the sin of two men or women engaging in sexual intercourse. Sin is sin. If anything, a church should encourage sinners to come to hear the good news and hopefully repent from their sins and turn their life around. In fact, doing that is the #1 mandate given to Churches from Jesus Himself.

unrepentant murderers and rapists are not in communion with the church. Neither are divorced people who chose to remarry. Neither are those who are not repentant for having an aborition. Or those who are not repentant for extra-marital/pre-marital sex.

Now, if he wants to repent and live a chaste life he would certainly be welcome to communion.

What Catholic Church put that in the paper? Or was this a Baptist church? I need proof that a Catholic Church would have done that.

I don't know what church allegedly put this in the paper. Oleyeller is the one who said he saw the paper and he identified it as a Baptist Church, though he did not name the church or the paper. He just said it was a church "in his community"

I personally have never seen or heard of any church, Catholic, Baptist, or any other denomination banning anyone from even attending based on the fact they've committed any particular sin.

I'm with you. The Catholic Church is organized. The Arch Dioceses would not allow that. That sounds like some Pentecostal shite.

I have a really hard time believing that any church that preaches the Gospel would turn away a gay person from attending church services. That would be like Weight Watchers refusing people from attending meetings until after they lost the weight.

Notice I said attend church services though.....attending and becoming a church member are two different things.

Wow. It's like people love to comment on Catholicism when they clearly haven't studied or read anything about it.

FWIW: 1 Corinthians 11:27-29 directly addresses this. The Greek word used here in the early letters written by Paul was actually equivalent to "profaning" the body and blood of the Lord, which is another example of the many examples as to why it actually is the body and blood of Christ and not just a symbol as the protestants and fundies would have you believe.

There really isn't anything confusing.. If you are living in mortal sin then you cannot receive the communion.

If the priest does not know and you are in line then he will provide you communion.

If the priest KNOWS and you are in line then you will be denied communion.

Its not complicated and has nothing to do with the fact that he is gay. If he were not married at all then the priest would have likely given him communion.

I am 100% straight and was informed by my priest that he would not provide communion to me while my marriage was going through the process to be blessed. I didn't think I had to run to the media to tell them about it though.

I also had to stand in for my brother-in-law to be my nephew's godparent even though my brother-in-law was asked by his sister to be her childs godfather. The Church will not allow someone to even be a godparent unless they conform to certain rules. Again I never thought about running to the media over the matter.
