He likely didn't know.. But the priest knew likely by reading about who was being buried. So as protector of the Eucharist its his responsibility to not provide it to someone he knows is living in mortal sin. Many people get in line every week and simply go up and are not taking the Eucharist the priest typically gives them a blessing.
said it perfectly
the Priest of course doesn't know every aspect of every person in his church, but when is presiding over a funeral and reads the obituary that states that the son is married to man, then is duty bound by the church and God to not give this individual communion.
As Catholics we are suppose to take responsibility for our sins and ask god for forgiveness in confession. Its not hypocrisy, Because the church does not KNOWING allowing murders and rapist to receive communion unless they have made a confession.
Father Beard did nothing wrong in this case. He offered the man a blessing like he was suppose to but can not allow the man take communion according to the teachings of the catholic church

How many divorced but not annulled and remarried catholics are knowingly allowed to accept the eucharist? It seems like a fairly similar situation.
Well, a lot of these things remain private and one cannot assume. That is between them and God.
However, in this particular case, the guy was trying to "showcase" his sin IMO. It was well known and documented in the obit.

is the spouse of the children not normally listed in obits?

How in the world is this news? What could possibly motivate the progressives at the Advocate to print this?
Oh yeah, that's right, they want to bully the Church into conforming to their worldview.

how I that the church's fault??
as Catholics we are taught in school or CCD about the rules of being a catholic. Ardillo knew the rules he just choose to not listen to them

My father has been denied communion for over 30 years because of a divorce that was never annulled. The church has pretty strict rules for being eligible for receiving communion.

I personally have never seen or heard of any church, Catholic, Baptist, or any other denomination banning anyone from even attending based on the fact they've committed any particular sin.
HAve you met Westboro?

Yeah but grabbing your husband's hand and storming out is a little over the top
Posted on 7/21/15 at 9:57 am to Salmon
Yes its normal assuming the family want it to be known.. Im not sure what your question is here.

He couldn't take of some in the mouth because he takes them in the mouth.
Who goes to church announcing to the world they purposely repeat acts that their chosen religion considers a sin? It's like walking up front while telling everyone I joined my neighbor, the Muslim, yesterday to hump some goats.

it was to Moustache to how was the guy "showcasing" his sin by listing his husband in the obit

Great. Until then, he is not in communion until he confesses and repents from the sin of disordered sexual relations.

Mind you, Catholics are welcome to take communion in my church, no questions asked. We're not stingy with it.
Well, that's because you guys view it as just bread and just wine and a "symbol."
The Catholics view it as the body and blood of Christ with actual divinity. Not as just a symbol.
I can see why the Methodists don't really have high regard for it if it's just a symbol.

If he wasn't showcasing it, he would stayed in his seat and nobody would have thought anything.
For my fellow Catholics ITT, what do you think of the Diocese's reaction to this? What are they apologizing for? Sends a mixed message, to say the least.

I'm not saying he's wrong to list it in the obits, but it's clear he was thinking he'd show off and get communion from his comments about how it looked to the younger gay family member and the other gay family member who went and drug him back in after he stormed out.
He admits he grew up catholic and attended church often with his mother. Then certainly he knew that a person living a homosexual lifestyle cannot receive the Eucharist.

THIS.
He wouldve had a conversation with the Church about what sins he needed to repent from (all of them of course) and get a clear understanding if he truly didn't know.

apparently he was confused on the Catholic Churches stance on this, or at least wasn't aware of it
he wanted to have an "intimate experience" with his mother one last time
I don't see that as "showcasing his gayness"

Actually the more I think about...
This Ardillo fella was a life long Catholic and a pretty devote one too. He was an Alter boy and grew up in a pretty devote home. Said the rosary everyday... etc etc
And he didn't know he was suppose to receive communion because he was married outside the church... well I call bull shite on that.
He knew damn well
