What exactly is hard labor? Like they have to work all day? That’s better than sitting in a cell all day

Believe he's parole eligible upon serving 65% of the sentence.

In the least, would receive good time credit at (~82%).

He was originally booked on battery. He should have bolted after the guy died and before they re-arrested him on the murder charge.

This is the correct answer. Be cognizant and know when it's time to cut and run.

They issued the murder warrant right as the dude died..

Ward found out at the same time as everyone else.

Kid literally ran out of work.

If there as any chance the guy was going to die, Ward should've been in hiding, so he could have time to develop a plan just in case.

Don't make it easy for them to roll up on him unannounced.

Worst case, it makes it where you can surrender, rather than being cuffed and hauled in.

Guy died January 18 and Ward turned himself back in on January 24

Whatever Louisiana prison he gets sent to, word is going to spread very quickly that this preppy looking white kid was responsible for killing an elderly black man. He’ll be surrounded by an inmate population that will be over 90% black. Not to mention the prison guards are going to know who he is and will be majority black.

He very well could end up dead before 5 years is up. I can’t imagine what’s going through Ward’s mind right now, knowing the horror that awaits him.

Im thinking Angola with the Hard Labor Factor

Angola is for life sentences or the death penalty. It’s a violent felony, so he’ll be up for parol after he serves 2/3 of his sentence. That’s before time served, good behavior, and work release. He’s gonna spend about 15 years.

That's what happened. He turned himself in 6 days after the guy died.

You don’t have to be serving life to be sent to Angola

He’s not going to Angola. I’m telling you, you don’t go to Angola without a life sentence. The reason is for fights and murders, you will get charges that exceed your original sentence just trying to stay alive. They keep people who are never getting out there, so if they fight or kill, it doesn’t matter, they are already serving life.

ETA: 4,400/5100 are serving life sentences.
63/5100 are on death row. The average time spent in Angola is over 50 years. His sentence was 30, not even a max penalty. He’ll go to Allen, CCC, or Elayn Hunt
