There is a lot of insecure parents on here just because some parents have better kids.
My kids played but I was not delusional like the majority of the parents. Most of the kids won't even make H.S. much less college or pro ball. It is the only set up, save a few outliers, where kids can play with other kids that have similar skills and get coaching. There is always good and bad with anything but the rec. leagues, now WRECK leagues, are putrid and not worth the $10 uniform you get.

I'm not sure that's very damning evidence of anything.
I don't think that means some MLB players didn't play AAU baseball at 8. I think that's a bit early, though.

I doubt this is true, but I am sure there is some sort of disclaimer. I know there are a lot of leagues but a lot of MLB players grew up playing ball in the kids leagues

What in the world is my wife to do with all the "Louisiana Bayou Stump Shockers 8u" swag that we've been buying in bulk since Braelieyn was 6?

Because travel ball parents are a special lot. It's like the little league dad who tries way too hard to live vicariously through his son, but on steroids.
I know what the complaint is. I just don't see complaining about something that isn't affecting you. I've coached ball for several years so I know better than most about parents. Just don't see where it's affecting everyone else. Ignore them and move on

You don't have to. People bitch. It's what they do. You're bitching right now and it has absolutely nothing to do with you.

So what you're telling me is my kid is better than 700+ MLB players.
And the thousands before them.

It is a discussion board, people discuss what's on their mind. This thread is about the pros and cons of travel ball and some people obviously think its stupid, tomorrow there will be a thread on why travel ball is great, or how my kid got on the best travel ball team.

If your goal joining a white team is to have your kid make it in baseball as a career....you're going to be VERY VERY VERY DISAPPOINTED!
For the record, my son played 6 years of white league baseball and that statement means 0 to me....ZERO! Wouldn't trade those 6 years for anything!
Let's just call it what it is

Race has nothing to do with it. The problem is the rec. leagues are horrendous when it comes to fundamentals. You may have 2 kids on a 12 member team that can catch a ball, much less have basic fundamental skills. Kids show up at 8-10 years of age and have NEVER played the game before. If your kid has been playing, or has fundamental skills, he will get ZERO out of a typical rec. league. The only way to play the game the right way, and learn/enhance fundamental skills, is play with kids of same talent or better and have fundamental coaching/teaching of the game. Kids don't play outside any longer and all of these rec. league kids are so far behind it is a lost cause.

And my contribution to the discussion is that it's stupid and pointless to complain about what other people do with their kids.

I'll never understand the hate that parents with kids on travel leagues get here. I understand some parents are annoying, but this is just weird.

My kid played from 8-12, took off his 13U Year and I bought a boat. Year and half off from weekend baseball was nice. Now hes playing 9th grade ball. They only have 3 weekend games all year which I'm happy about.
