Oh yeah? Were you at those I-49 public meeting with us? As someone who has hosted dozens of public meetings on things ranging from parks to shopping centers to urban redevelopment, NIMBYism a very strong force. Tons of projects get nerfed due to bullshite NIMBY chicken littles.

What's the sense in Shreveport of the inner-city connector being completed through downtown? It seems Allendale has suddenly become a world heritage site. (sarcasm) Is it a matter of greasing the right palms?

What's the general impact a interstate has on the economics of a city? Does the impact increase as the number of interstates increase? I would think this would be a good thing for Lafayette, no?

I wish it would be completed between LA line and Ft. Smith.

Why is it Texas can plan for the future, but the folks in charge here can't ever seem to do the same?

910 was built and the state kept the Interstate designation off so they could keep all the tolls. The tolls are off but it's still not an interstate.

Odd

It would connect to 49 and 49 would go to Kansas City I think.

I can't see how it would be a bad thing. The thruway is congested and looks dumpy.

It will definitely be a good thing for travelers going between Houston and New Orleans. It's already arguably faster to take hwy 90 instead of I-10. This would make it a no-brainer. Kind of like a loop for BR, but one they can't really use.

My thoughts exactly. If I-49 were every completed all the way to Nola, it would absolutely be faster to take I-10 to I-49 then I-49 to Nola from Houston. Without traffic lights in Lafayette, Morgan city, then Boute it would take around 2 hours to get from Lafayette to Nola. As of now, you might not get through Baton Rouge in less than two hours from Lafayette depending on when you leave.

I don't deny that. But I still think the government uses the NIMBY excuse as a reason for lack of progress- especially on roads. To try and clarify my point, if the state of Louisiana would actually PLAN for growth, I believe they could get things like I49 or a BR loop done BEFORE the areas they need to utilize are populated or next to the populace. If they did shite before it was a critical need, the areas they want to use wouldn't be so hard to get a hold of. JMO.

It's not just roads. A new cruise terminal is being held up in NOLA because of Bywater NIMBY dummies. And the best part is their reasons are completely nonsensical.

I have family that owns a little bit of land it is supposed to run through. Over the last year or so the the talks have increased regarding acquiring the land, so more activity than there used to be.

Yeah, it'd be great. It would alleviate some of the traffic issues in BR as well.

Laffy to Nola on I-49 currently takes a little more than 2 hrs, and that's with a fair amount of exceeding the speed limit, and the little to no traffic.

Anybody know the mileage distance (offhand) difference Laffy to Nola on I-10 vs I-49?

I know. I'm assuming with a 70 mph speed limit and no lights through laffy, Morgan city, and Boutte, Avendale, etc. it would take right at 2 hours.
