acronym for "not in my backyard", a common response from people when development plans are discussed. No one wants the shite next to them. I think the BR Business Report first coined the term.

Something that's apparently many orders of magnitude worse in Louisiana than seemingly every other state.

Problem is that its not politically correct to cut freeways through the ghetto anymore. So the section along evangeline thruway is a problem

Except for apx. 75 mi, the entire N/S route thru Arkansas is done. Believe me when I say, when these guys get after it, it gets done. The challenges vs. LA are different, to say the least, but there seems to be a minimal amount of monkey shines going on.

ps: Razorback stadium at Fayetteville is a mere 5-7 minute drive from the exit.

I believe there are some environmental issues too with their route along the thruway. Something about an old railroad yard that is contaminated and needs to be cleaned up before they could proceed. I could be wrong, but I believe I heard that's one of the issues.

wrong. I live way out of town. Couldn't care less if BR ever gets a loop. I can take the OMRB or the JJA bridge if i need to get across the river.

Army Corps of Engineers won't let them build roads through the swamp anymore. That's why the BR loop proposals had it swinging all the way south to LA 22 rather than cutting through the Manchac Swamp.

Most of the I-49 connector plans have seen involved a half loop run east of Scott around the city.

same reason they can't widen I10 at the 10/110 split, I'd imagine.

Much of 90 from from NOLA to Lafayette has been brought up to interstate standards. What's left are the inner-city routes in Lafayette and Shreveport.

I attended the DOTD meeting the state held at the River Center and except for 4-5 buildings (and that isn't certain) the existing ROW is large enough to add a lane in each direction of I-10.

I saw the map, there's more ROW than you think.

this is a load of shite.

This. It's all a matter of how badly the powers that be want the project done. People can try to hold out on things like this but the state (or Feds, in this case) can just expropriate it. In cases like this about the only thing you can really argue on is how much money you think you should be getting.

The I-49 Community Working Group is scheduled to meet Aug. 25 from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

The I-49 Lafayette connector is a proposed 5.5-mile extension of the north-south interstate from its current terminus at Interstate 10 in Lafayette south to Lafayette Regional Airport.

The public will be able to voice concerns about the proposed I-49 Lafayette connector as part of a supplement to the project's Environmental Impact Statement at a public hearing and by writing to the Federal Highway Administration.
