Give that your chances of hitting traffic somewhere in Baton Rouge is well over 50% (not to mention I-10 across the spillway and through Metairie) and your chances of hitting traffic along the proposed I-49 route are just about nil, I'll take that route every day.

I-49 is most definitely longer, just never knew by how much. But at least you are moving, as opposed to the I-10 BR crapshoot.

My neighbor drives one. A pink one. But it's a track car.

I believe design is being done for a significant section right now.

I was intimate with the NEPA process for the I-49 sections of US 90 between Raceland and the Westbank.

There have been numerous environmental hurdles.

Arkansas is working on building some I-49 in Benton County and some more was recently completed in southeast Ft Smith and south of TXK. Our issue is Missouri coming up with some damn money for their 5 mile portion so our 17 mile portion doesn't stub out at the state line. Arkansas has promised to finish the Bella Vista Bypass if Missouri can find the $$$ they promised circa 2005

Next big hurdle is a new bridge over the Arkansas River East of Ft Smith. Projected at $500M IIRC

AHTD builds bypasses around cities, then connects the bypasses with new terrain routes. That way everything they build is useful

DOTD built everything except the bypasses and now they're in a bind

Shreveport of the inner-city connector being completed through downtown

I read somewhere that the I-49 leg in south Shreveport would take the 3132 route to 220 where it join the leg to Texasrkana. 49 from 3132 to I 20 would become a spur, like 149, 349, etc.; thus avoiding building a leg north of 20. An issue is the current ramp from NB 49 to WB 3132; it's one lane currently

Slidell, Hammond, and Shreveport are the only 3 cities in La that have connecting North/South & East/West interstates.
