Fun New Orleans story from Reddit. Got drugged and mugged in NOLA

As the title said I got drugged and mugged. I have insurance on my Rolex but don’t know the best way to proceed because the officer said that insurance will fight it if details can’t confirm it was an actual theft.

I was at Harrah’s playing roulette and was approached multiple times by one NOLA based couple. Ran into them once on bourbon but they didn’t feel right. Felt weird that I saw them again. End of the story is I got tossed from a car I have no recollection getting into hours after my wife last saw me and subsequently was robbed.

Police are saying if it’s classified as a kidnapping (since I was unwillingly taken into a car) and if they can’t prove it, insurance won’t honor the claim. However, they said, if I keep it open and ambiguous it’ll turn out better.
I was undoubtedly drugged as I’ve never once drank to the point that I lost all control and function of my arms and legs for any period of time. The police even asked if I “willingly handed over my possessions” (Rolex, wallet, phone , etc.). Obviously no sane person would just handover all of their possessions unprovoked.

They tried using my credit cards at a Walmart in Chamallet but fraud protection immediately went into effect after one $400 charge was approved.
When I was tossed from the car I had to lay there in panic as I rolled on my back until a Good Samaritan stopped and drove me 20 min back to my hotel which was a 5 min walk from the casino.

I feel incredibly lucky to be alive but I have a lot of questions and my two primary questions are: 1) are the police acting in my best interest in classifying this as they are?; and 2) should I file a claim with my insurance before the aforementioned question is answered?

As an added layer, apparently it’s a state police problem if I was coerced from Harrah’s but it’s NOPD if I was outside of the building once accosted.
For reference, the stolen model and serial number are below to protect anyone from buying stolen goods. Kept the middle out for obvious reasons.
