I seriously doubt anyone is. My guess is the developer wanted it changed to the name of their $Billion investment that they are building for marketing purposes and used the offensiveness as an excuse.

They now have a bunch of baws from across the country talking about their new development that otherwise would have never heard of it.

This is right. What Bob Bass wants, he gets in FW. This was his ask.

It's a 1.7 billion dollar development called Westside so the developer wanted the road named after his development. Whether you agree with a.rich.developer.changing a road name or not, it is not unusual for that to happen.

You know they couldn’t wait to celebrate this monumental display of white guilt on Facebook

Surprised they didn’t wash indigenous peoples feet at the final vote as atonement

I mean White Settlement does seem not okay

Sure, to someone that sees everything through a racial or offended lens.
To everyone else, it’s just some old name of a place.

Looked it up on Wiki - 33% of the current residents are Hispanic / Latino.

The name of a recent mayor of White Settlement was Ron White. No joke.

He died in office in 2023.

Will they denounce and abandon the Democratic Party for their role in the slavery debacle? After all, it was the Democrats who fought to keep slaves in chains picking cotton, not the Republicans. And the Democrats actually started the KKK.
So if you're gonna rename all the connections to the confederacy so that a certain group can feel better about themselves, why not erase that big connection to the slavery past?

It says right in the quoted part that the reason for the change is a $1.7B retail and residential development. I don’t see anywhere that it claims the reason for the change is because people are butthurt. Onne person is quoted saying get over it, that’s it.

If you live near the area you’ll know it’s more than a commercial complex wanting to change the name. The city name and street has been a topic of debate over the years.

I drive this stretch of road every single day multiple times. It's not a big deal - the developers who just bought up the land and are putting a huge multi use development there want a different name for marketing purposes.

The name isn't rooted in racism, and at the same time it's not that special of a name. Of all the things to get up in arms about changing the name of a road to better market your investment seems like the last thing we should care about. The rest of the road and the municipality isn't changing. There is not some big push to change everything.

Y'all need to not get so mad over a dumb story that has little impact on anyone's life.
