Either of those is better that side facing for my wife. I could give her an acre and she'd still end up hitting something.

Reads that you are to poor and live in a shitty hood.

I kinda like a carport. They're easier to keep clean.
they tend to not become a storage room like a garage does.
1 year in and only one car can fit because of all the other shite stored in the garage. doesnt happen often with a carport

Does it though? Carports look a lot better than garages on some lots
Why not both? Mine is away from the house connected by a breezeway.

I have both. So, do I get double trashy points?
Posted on 10/31/19 at 10:52 am to GreatLakesTiger24
I have both.
Covered parking on the side and 2 car garage in the back.

How about a detached brick 3 car garage connected to the home via breezeway, heated/cooled with a lift in one bay and a finished loft overhead, BUT it is front-facing?

I think they're cool, problem is once you get inside, the garage is technically facing the street, trashy I guess

Older expensive homes in nice urban areas have carports
So definitely the front-facing garage

Nonsense.

more common in south Louisiana than garages

Side or rear garage is ideal. Courtyard garages blow arse, but are a necessity in all the hoods with narrow as hell lots that cost 120k for the lot. Front garage is convenient, but really needs to be dressed up to not stand out too much and the house needs to have proper proportions in order to make it look right. It can be done, but will cost a bit more. Separate garage is annoying AF.

Carport every time. Says you can't afford walls and a door to store items and cars.

Right, most older homes have carports. I live in an older neighborhood, where garages are not common, but it's one of the nicer neighborhoods in this area. I have a carport that is behind my house, but I also have an electric gate for my driveway, so it's not like the back of my house is open to the street.
On the other hand, there are tons of cookie cutter subdivisions that are popping up in suburbs around here that are half the price of the older homes and have front facing garages because their lots aren't wide enough to have any parking behind their house.
ETA: Now, front facing carports are pretty shitty, IMO.

I like the openness of my car-porch. It’s nice and breezy. Today I could use a closed up garage.

bought an old executive manor in foreclosure in LFT years ago to flip, 6000 sq. ft. house on about 6 acres, it had a carport, and it's very common in the area
