I was more of a ninja turtles guy though tbh
I'm pretty sure my wife has put me in the friend zone

Nope. Didn't happen.

A woman’s chance of being raped in the US is 1 in 5, and approximately 4 out of 5 assaults are committed by someone that the victim knows. In fact, 47% of rapists are a friend or acquaintance.
So a woman in the US has a 10% chance of being raped by a friend. Seems legit

Got in an argument with a woman that was quoting some crazy rape statistic similar to this 1 in 5 stat quoted here. I asked her to cite a source with a verifiable statistical basis for the number. She said she can't because "most rapes aren't reported." I responded with "if they aren't reported then how the frick do you know they happened?" Anger and silence after that.

Today's definition of rape is eerily similar to "seduced" and "mercy frick"
While I am guilty of the former and proud recipient of the latter, I have Never.
Ever.
Been FZ'd, or allowed some chick the power to put me there.
Poppa 19 didn't raise no beta bitch.
Like a man, I admitted when I was shot the frick down, and continued to circle the herd.

In my opinion, the term "friend zone" doesn't perpetuate rape culture. It's a silly and somewhat unappealing name given to the common scenario of unrequited love. It happens with both males and females.
It gives "unrequited love" a less poetic spin and makes it seem more manipulative and that's why people accused of doing it to someone don't like it.

well there are 2 types of friend zones
one is the traditional unrequited love (really attraction) where one person just doesn't feel it. that's life and we all shrug it off and go on
there is a much more manipulative version where one party essentially strings the other along, typically for emotional support. think of it like a fake boyfriend/girlfriend where that person supplies the emotional support and attention that the other wants from a partner and is strung along in that void where it seems like a future is a possibility (when it's not). i much more use this example when i talk about the FZ
the author in OP acts like the first scenario is the only way it occurs and i agree a huge reaction to that scenario is a bit much. however, in the 2nd scenario, it's completely understandable why the person who was rejected would have some emotional response to the rejection. the absolute worst is when the person who is doing the rejecting is in a rocky relationship and uses the "friend" as the plug-filler for all that's missing in the relationship, while dangling that carrot of "oh i wish i had a partner who [basically does everything the FZ'd person is doing]". it is manipulative, whether intentional or not, and often it is selfish (b/c that person is using the "friend" to fill the gaps of a relationship created by their poor choices)

Women will say it's the guy's fault for catching feels in scenario 2 and that they thought they were legit non-sexual friends with the guy.

i know i have the rep of FZ and all that but i haven't had a B situation since high school, and a few of my "friend zone" examples were just me being a pussy-idiot and years after the girl asked me why i never did anything during that period
i've had plenty of column A, though, and it's usually my fault

My theory is it was their high school administrators with their zero tolerance policies.

The second scenario is called a "lifeboat".

if you want my traditional values/shitlord comparison, the female FWB zone is the male FZ

Yeah I'll be honest, I strike out a metric shite ton but I don't think I've ever EVER had a girl ask me why I didn't try anything. Much more likely for her to comment years down the road that I was one persistent and consistent mofo

Oh no doubt
We've all had an awkward phase where we were going about something with completely the wrong approach.
