The one thing he has going for him is that it's very trendy and widely known by everyone due to the marketing. And, it's top of the line expensive. So, there is a decent chance that it's viewed positively.
Consider if it was just a different exercise bike.
Honestly, it's a pretty awesome sales strategy to make something so trendy that it gives cover to the husband for buying it.

My neighbor friend gave his wife a pair of jeans a few sizes too small and a gym membership one year for Christmas.
This was awesome. She let us all know how pissed off she was but she did use the gym membership
