It only asks for that information if you check your eligibility.

Most credit card companies are doing monitoring.

You get either $125 OR 4 years credit monitoring.
You can also make a claim for money over $125 but you need some kind of documentation if you go that route.
But if you were part of the breach you can have the $125. However, if you take the $125 you probably sign away any future right to make a claim should some crook try and jack you up.

I just opted for the credit monitoring instead of the money. I have a hard time believing they're going to send out $125 checks without asking for more information on previous credit monitoring.
Plus, the Equifax settlement values the credit monitoring and ID protection at $1,920 over 10 years.

Bad news gents...
The money allocated to the $125 option is a firm $31,000,000. That means 248,000 claims. Once the claims go over that amount, the funds will be distributed pro rata. I've got a strong suspicion the claims will go over that amount for that option.

The value of credit monitoring Equifax is giving you is absurd. If you have any unsecured credit facility, you have credit monitoring. Take the money. I have a hatred for these credit companies that's rivaled only by the I R S.

Filled mine out the other day.
I already had credit monitoring through either a credit card of mine or another data breach.
In any case, it definitely took me at least 10 hours over several months to change my financial account info and ensure no new credit popped up etc... No more than 10 hours though

I have no doubt the value is bloated, but Equifax is paying Experian for those first 4 years of monitoring. They've set aside the bulk of the settlement to pay for the monitoring and protection. If you want them to pay for any of this, taking the monitoring is more penal.

So how do they define credit monitoring?
Through my bank they update me on my FICO and activity - does that count?
Obviously want the cash

$125 is an extremely small penance for the ineptitude Equifax displayed and the damage done by the hack.

Anybody remember the Red Bull settlement about 5-10 years ago? So far that case of free Red Bull was my biggest lawsuit jackpot but if this $125 comes through I'll have a new 1st place.

My Discover card comes with credit monitoring
I think my Capital One Checking account does as well but I get monthly emails from Discover saying nothing odd has shown up
I haven’t read through it all yet but I’m guessing it doesn’t have to be paid credit monitoring

So is this thing legitimate or no? I apparently was affected but I am wary to put in my information.

You better beat the criminal who has your info and will make a claim on your behalf.
