OR....You rehabilitate the current bridges, which is the feasible thing to do.

Or maybe stop sending billions to Ukraine and Iran and funding gender programs in Pakistan paying billions to illegals, and fix our shite at home instead.
That's not very global thinking of you!

Nothing last forever and rehabilitation only buys so much time.

Reporter during the White House briefing asked for an estimate to clear debris and create a channel for ships. He asked "days, weeks, months, years?". They were unable to answer.
A couple lift barges, cutting torches, and some GoM oilfield baws could get it done in a few weeks.

Just about finished working on a rural bridge replacement project for the LADOTD in 9 different Parishes, 38 different small bridges.
All are being replaced, because all of them have load limits posted, were built during the Huey P. Long administration, and are built on wooden pilings/posts instead of concrete. Some will have temporary bridges in place during replacement; others will use detour routes.
Since federal funds are involved, all of them also have to have to undergo environmental review-- wetlands, cultural resources, endangered species, etc.
Yet the Louisiana Hwy 90 bridges across the Pearl River are COMPLETELY CLOSED to traffic and there is NO IMMEDIATE PLAN in place to fix or replace them.

The NTSB investigation will likely take a year to complete and maritime experts expect a public hearing will be scheduled sooner. Details of the inspection in Chile will likely be presented at the hearing. There will also likely be questions about the effectiveness of USCG follow-up inspections considering the serious budget and manning problems the Coast Guard currently faces.

The I-10 bridge in lake Charles needs to be replaced before a disaster strikes.

Ask the Hawaiians, the Ohioans, the Floridians, the American citizenry that have desperately needed this administration’s support in a disaster?
The Hawaiian’s got a check for $600.00 & photo op with a half dead potato, the Ohioans got the same thing over a year later minus the 6 bills, and the Floridians had a competent Governor that fixed the bridge themselves in under a month.
That debris removed and the bridge rebuilt multiple times over for a fraction of the cost that’s been pissed away in Ukraine.

Where were the tugboats?
how exactly is a tug boat going to stop a vessel that weighs over 150,000 tons moving 8 knots?

Seemingly if it just lost power and turned the motor into neutral, why would it have not just continued on straight under the bridge?
Lots of assumptions involved but what sort of current were they dealing with? Wind?? A ship like that without propulsion is going to be extremely susceptible to wind

Doesn’t have to stop it at that speed. Just steer it.

There were two tugs Brigett and Eric Macallister that escorted Dali out of the berth and into the track for the channel and the tugs return. SOP.
