A ship like this would have generators, right?
I’m guessing there was a fire that hindered the generators.
Just a bad situation all around.

Good point. That would be scary too

Catastrophic timing for the ship to lose power. Minutes later and it clears under the bridge.

Said the same thing earlier. Then they’ll either have time to get power back or likely just run aground in some Chesapeake marsh.

I used to be involved in bridge construction.
I can say with certainty that bridge will require some work.

Bridge is still in better shape than the I-10 bridge in Lake Charles amirite?

Has anyone blamed this on a DEI boat driver yet?
Because I'd like to put my money on that

Here’s a video of it in real time. I don’t see any cars on the bridge besides the construction workers. It is being reported that one found is in critical condition and the other refused treatment
Video in real time. It happens over 3 minutes.

Multiple generators

DeSantis would already be disassembling that MFer. Secretary Pete will try to get over there by the November election. Musk is designing a big-assed magnet to lift it up.

Can’t rule out cyber but terrorism seems a stretch Typically, it’s human or mechanical error or combo
Could be a disgruntled crew member killed the generators as they were approaching the bridge.

but the USCG did a full investigation
So now we wait for the results of the investigation. That video shortly before the ship hits that support shows eighteen wheelers passing overhead. You think some drivers are counting their lucky stars this morning?
Smoke billowing out of that smokestack. Not an easy way to die. Those people in those vehicles, they got up this morning, got in their vehicles, drove onto that bridge, before sunrise they were dead. I hope they were ready to meet their maker.
.....and just like that - you're gone.

How many major bridges to make the crossing in that area? This is going to wreak logistical havoc
Posted on 3/26/24 at 8:37 am to Ripley
I would bet that the limitation of liability action was e-filed before sunrise this morning.
I can only imagine the value of the vessel and pending freight. Also, this is no "error in navigation." Something went seriously wrong. Unseaworthiness is certain. The vessel's history of issues and what happened before the voyage will be critical issues.

Refusing treatment after having a bridge fall on you is the ultimate baw move.
ETA: Correction, refusing treatment and asking for a for a cigarette since yours got wet would be the ultimate baw move.

Baltimore Fire Chief confirmed at least 7 vehicles went in, including one semi.
ETA: BFD spokesman Kevin cartwright, not chief.

In a sense its catastrophic timing...but in another sense this could have happened at rush hour or something.

Been seeing this dude a lot lately. Is he the new bad luck Brian?
