Why is the NHC still saying it will be a Cat 2 when the latest model intensity guidance seems to be coalescing around a mid-level Cat 1?

Because the hurricane models run it up to Cat 2 and the SHIPS model is suggesting a high chance of rapid intensification, so they’re respecting those higher end outcomes.

They always overshoot on the intensity prediction. Almost every time. They say 2, my guess would be weak 1 at landfall. Still something to prepare for.

I’ve purchased water before every storm, but I’ve never actually needed it in the BR area. Living on the edge this time and rolling with the water I have on hand already.

If the municipal water in BR goes kaput, we all will have a lot more problems than you not having a couple extra gallons of Kentwood in plastic jugs. That’s the way I always look at things like that.

Recon is just south of Terrebonne Parish on their way to the storm right now. I'm looking at the recon data on tidbits.com

Woah… That seems like at least full H to the east

It’s not a forecast, just a decent idea of the possible ranges based on the GFS model. Basically they tweak the initial state a bit and then run the model to see where things end up. Entirely possible it ends up outside of that spread, but it’s a pretty decent approximation of the ranges of possible outcomes.

That is some salty, weather-related, dirty talk. I'm going to go get some tissue.

Anecdotally it feels like they undershoot often. That doesn’t mean it happens here though.
