These threads are funny because a lot of posters refuse to accept the fact that they need to lose weight. They just blame the BMI methodology.

Absolutely. I was watching some home movies shot mostly in Louisiana and Mississippi the other day, in early/mid 70s. No fatties anywhere.

Unless you're a football player or body builder, or similar athlete, the BMI scale isn't really off and it's definitely useful directionally.

People who deride it aren't usually the muscle-bound types. They know. It's usually the, 5'9 185 dadbod crowd who think they aren't overweight because they're thinner than their peers.

I'm 6' (probably a tad under now as I age), 175-177 and could stand to lose a few. And I have a big fat head.

You can’t stop deez gainz!

For the record, I have a higher body fat percentage than I should. I’m in the gym 5-7 days per week and I generally eat well. The fat will come off eventually.

If that many people are heavy is it really overweight still? I mean the average has to move!

Yeah they move reference ranges for other key health markers. Now that the world is addicted to added sugar, the liver enzymes ref ranges are higher than ever.

Average weight in MS was lower in 1970s than in CO today. So we're all getting fatter.

Also I don’t believe this for one (friggin) second.

I believe it. Just take America, in which people have access to all the food they want, and look at all the fat people. When the rest of the world has the same access to food - and they're getting it - they will have roughly the same percentage of fat people.

ya know. I wont disparage skinny or fat people, but I was over 300 about a month ago and turned 44 and decided a change was needed. I started optavia and as of now, less than 30 days later im down to 275. it isn't easy, but it can be done.

people can live their lives how they please, and it is immaterial what a bunch of keyboard warriors on the internet say - but if anyone is wanting to make that change - take it from someone who didn't think it was possible - it is :)

A lousy fast food burger every 6 weeks isn’t good for you? Geez. Live a little

5’ 10” and 200 pounds is considered obese to some. It’s not and the standards are exaggerated. Six feet tall and 150 isn’t healthy.

Wait. I thought starvation (caused by capitalism, no doubt) was one of the biggest problems the world faced today. What gives?

When I graduated college and got married I was 5'10' and 200 lbs Took me 5 years but I got down to 162 lbs and now I hold steady at 166/167 lbs. I still need to lose to make 160 my steady normal and be solidly in the good range of the BMI/Weight charts. People tell me I looked sick/frail now and I just shake my head.

Im 34, my driver is to get to my 40's(kids will be 11 & 9 then) without developing a gut. By then my kids will be old enough that finding exercise time wont be such a challenge I hope. My wife has dropped strictly through eating habits but I get up at 5 to run cause I needed the extra help

Perceptions are warped. I'm 5' 8", 150, and I've had people tell me I'm too skinny. I'm 30 pounds over the underweight mark.
