The post I replied to had context. That flattening the curve would cause it to disappear. Trumps quote was before all that. And it, too, was rhetoric.

Look - you have an agenda and you want to reopen the country. I understand.

I was just pointing out that the Barstool guy's analogy of cancer to COVID, and your analogy of HIV to COVID discount your points.

As another poster stated, the "flatten the curve" rhetoric was to get the general public to understand something simple and straightforward. I do not recall a consensus statement citing "flatten the daily new cases curve" or "flatten the cumulative new cases curve" or "flatten the daily deaths curve" or "flatten the number of patients in the ICU curve", etc. . There might have been recently (or even at the beginning) but I'm not sure it was a consensus - nothing about this disaster has been a consensus. All of these curves are important.

the goal is flattening. It will flatten as a function of time and decreased new daily cases.

Masks don’t work for the general public isn’t exactly a stance that changes with “more information” when you explain your reasoning as being due to the public’s inability to wear them correctly and without touching them. If you’ve been in public at all, you’d know this to be true.

Flatten the curve to protect hospital capacity and we can open up. And then changing that to a cure being necessary to open up with zero reasoning for the change is simply moving a goalpost.

Neither of these is based on “fluid” data.

It’s okay if you’re scared to answer.

Man that’s the best CYA line in politics

2.2 million deaths, nah nevermind

Flatten the curve, nah nevermind

Masks don’t help, nah nevermind

It’s fluid, so don’t hold me accountable

Speaking of curves:

This madness has to stop. It's a virus with less than 1% fatality rate. ETA: 25 Americans have lost their job for each case of coronavirus. Not deaths, just cases.

How about this:

You stay in your home and have instacart deliver your groceries, so you can enjoy your kink for eternal house arrest.

The rest of society can go about enjoying our lives.

Or is this about something else?

If that's the case, the graph you posted shows it has flattened yet you can't seem to grasp that

People with heart conditions shouldn’t ride roller coasters.

If we applied current covid logic, we would shut down all theme parks until heart conditions were cured.

Women who are pregnant shouldn’t fly.

If we applied current covid logic, we would ground all planes until we found a safe way for pregnant women to take to the skies without injuring the baby.

Do people not realize how stupid all this has been??? As if people can’t make their own decisions and weigh their own risks???

I’m sorry, the answer we were looking for was “what is, you can’t”

Looks like you like moving the goalposts from flattening a curve to stopping any increase in a curve. Those are different results.

A cumulative curve can flatten as a function time and minimal or no increases to the base data. Scale will influence the appearance of the curve and it can "flatten".
Your desired result requires no increase of the base data (as you know).

No. YOU were the one who brought cumulative into the discussion.
quote:

A cumulative curve will always be increasing. By definition, a cumulative curve cannot decrease to 0.

If every single human being becomes infected, we have a 100% infection rate.

Until someone is born. Then they become infected. And the cumulative increases again.
quote:

Scale will influence the appearance of the curve and it can "flatten". Your desired result requires no increase of the base data (as you know).

Again. YOU are the one who brought cumulatives into the discussion. YOU are the one bitching about “but muh cumulatives in Georgia!”

The ONLY way to stop the CUMULATIVE curve from increasing would be a complete and total annihilation of the virus.
