A company I work for has a division in south Alabama and one of its departments, the one I work in, is being moved to Ft. Wayne, IN. There’s incentives to moving. A bonus, but no raise in pay.

Can anyone here tell me about Ft. Wayne other than the blistering cold during the winter months? I can’t really see myself living up north. I could transfer to another department in my local office, and be fine. However, I’m not sure it’ll be worth it.

One of my dashing young attorneys hails from the great city of Fort Wayne, where he played baseball for the Indiana University-Purdue-University at Fort Wayne Mastodons.

If you're not getting a raise in pay, there better at least be some pussy.

(I know what you meant, was being an OT smartass/dumbass)

Id go in a heartbeat. I love it up north. Only thing keeping me here now is not wanting to move my kids away from my mom.

I overnight there for work on a regular basis. It’s not bad. I like staying there. Downtown is clean, and in the process of being revitalized/updated, etc. Not sure what fun stuff there is to do overall but it’s in a decent location with multiple big cities within driving distance.

Man, Fort Wayne ain’t the worst place, but it sure as hell ain’t the best.

You can find good things about anywhere. Lots of good people and good hunting in that part of Indiana. Not too far from Chicago, which OT histrionics aside, is a great city.

But Fort Wayne has seen better days. It’s like a smaller, worse Dayton, Ohio.

How much is the bonus?

Enough to make it worth it after you have to pay for moving expenses?

Move away. Have a little adventure and then come home. If a bunch of coworkers are getting moved at the same time it will be fun to all hang out together for a bit. But have an exit plan because it will start sucking after a couple of years.

Source. I moved for a job when I was younger along with a group of other people. We partied like rock stars and did lots of exploring and traveling the new part of the country. It was a blast for about two years and then the new wore off and we realized we lived in a shite hole. Everyone bailed shortly thereafter. I was lucky and got out early.
