He never gets a closeup.
If his story was true, he would have gotten up really close and taken dozens of pictures of the face, eyes, all parts of it.
He wouldn't simply think "Oh, there's a dead baby plesiosaur, let me snap a quick pic and go about my business searching for interesting sea shells."
