but I kept the CC and cash and left a note in the wallet for him to call me in the event he returned so I could return the contents. I received a call from the store manger to return the contents of the wallet and they would deal with it.

Yeah you are full of shite. The manager at a racetrack as station knew you kept the cash and cards?

Have you EVER even read the OT?

Simply post the name and address of the guy and let the OT slueths go to work. The owner and the wallet/cash/CC will be reunited within an hour.

There was a DL, CC and $100.

Call the credit card company and report it them. Give them your contact info and let them find the person for you.

First off, why was the manager digging through the wallet hard enough to find the note?

Second, you should’ve just posted the name here. These OT weirdos would’ve found him

You’re retarded. This is a common scam to rob people. Drop a fake arse wallet somewhere (preferably a white part of town), wait for some Good Samaritan to take the bait, then rob them at the meet up. RIP in peace OP

That’s a whole lot more effort than anyone would go to for robbing someone. BR criminals must like to work harder than average criminals.

So the Wallet Owner retraces his steps and returns to the gas station to find his wallet but a note from some Good Samaritan to call him to retrieve the $100 and his credit card. Your heart and mind are in the right place but as the wallet owner, I’d just cancel my credit card, which was probably done already, and eat the $100 figuring it was a scam and I was being set up.

What you did is fine except you need to write down the DL address. Mail a letter with your contact info and send the cash when he answers.

I would have left the credit cards as they’re easy to replace.

I live in Arizona. I know the dude. Send me the $100, and I'll take care of it. Thanks in advance.

Keep in mind the "manager" probably threw away your note.

The suggestion to drop off at PD and tell them the story is the best one.

Fun fact, if you find a wallet you can drop it in a USPS mail box and they will deliver it free of charge.

Another fun fact, they will probably steal the money/ credit cards. I don't trust them one bit

If this happened to me, I would be glad OP was trying to help keep the money and CCs safe but I would also be rather fricking annoyed that after going to get my wallet, I have to take the extra step of tracking down the contents. For $100 and some CCs I'd probably just take the L and move on with my life.

Either way props to OP for trying to do the right thing.
