DONALDSONVILLE, La. (WAFB) - A former Gonzales teacher is facing charges in connection with a double shooting in Donaldsonville on Tuesday, Sept. 15.
According to the Ascension Parish Sheriff’s Office, Kyle Delaney, 25, was arrested later that night and charged with two counts of attempted second-degree murder, illegal use of weapons, and criminal damage to property.
Delaney was previously a teacher at Gonzales Middle School, but Ascension Public Schools confirmed he is no longer employed by the district. Their website identified him as the 2024-2025 New Teacher of the Year.
School officials said Tuesday, Sept. 15, was his last day.
The shooting Delaney is accused of happened on St. Vincent Street around 5:30 p.m.
Deputies said two injured men were found at the scene and taken to the hospital, where they are stable. One of the victims reportedly sustained a single gunshot wound while the other victim reportedly sustained multiple gunshot wounds.
According to the sheriff’s office, detectives identified Delaney as a suspect during the investigation.
Detectives said Delaney arrived at the victims’ location, exited his vehicle, and fired multiple shots in their direction before fleeing the scene.
Authorities reported finding Delaney at a home in Gonzales. He was booked into the Ascension Parish Jail, where he is awaiting bond.

He lists himself as a coach of some sort. It really is time to reconsider our sports/education relationship.

He probably would have not been caught but for shouting “get yo asses back in school” as he pulled the trigger.

This is better than sleeping with students.

I really want to know more details behind this story.
Most of the time a guy won't just roll up, pop out, and pop off.
Was it a lover's quarrel?
Bad drug deal?
Disrespek?
Gang initiation?
Hormones?

Nothing is more on-brand for the Louisiana public school system than this.

I read "former teacher of the year" before I read the rest of the title, so I assumed it was an article about a woman teacher who was arrested for statutory rape.

Not your typical-looking Kyle.

I hadn't read the body of the article at that point, or anything other than the first half of the title.

Wonder what the motive was? Threw his life away anyhow, way to think it through.

Poor impulse control is part of the pattern I keep recognizing.
