Basically they used an accomplice roofing company to pass informational leaflets to homeowners post Ida and then did a bait and switch and signed up literally thousands of people as “clients” using assignment of benefits legalese none of these people could decipher,and settled claims for them unbeknownst to said “clients” and then commingled the money (allegedly). Unsuspecting homeowners filed Ida claims and got lawyers only to shockingly find out that their supposed lawyers MMA already settled their claim. Then the money these people were owed got mixed up in the firms hookers and blow slush fund and never got paid out to homeowners.

In that letter they admit they filed 856 suits claiming they represented the homeowners directly but really represented the roofing company.
They also paid a third party, Velawcity, something like $13M, allegedly, to purchase claims (unethical and illegal) and Velawcity was supposed to manage everything and they fricked it all up, while filing literally thousands of suits in the WDLA alone.
They filed suits on clients they no longer represented, clients who had hired other attorneys, and clients who had settled cases.
This is like movie-level fraud. Wolf of Wall Street stuff

Is the roofing company in legal trouble too? I looked it up but was only able to find this from a 2023 article:

Whoa wait- you mean to tell me that a group of piece of shite plaintiff attorneys were doing underhanded illegal things to get richer? Say it ain’t so! I was initially represented by MMA for my IDA claim. I initially called a public adjuster to help me as SAGESURE refused to even give me enough money to go above my $3000ish deductible. It ended up being a bait and switch when I was represented by MMA, they basically sat and did nothing with it. I found another law firm and eventually got enough to more than take care of my house issues even with the law firm taking 33%.

I just read the Bill of Information. It basically says that MMA misled Apex, who was out of state and didn’t know La laws, and told them the Assignment of Benefits model was legally permissible, so it doesn’t sound like Apex is being viewed as knowingly complicit in this, but they should have known better.
