What's crazy is that, barring global financial meltdown, you could buy an F1 today for ~30 million and sell it for probably double that in 10 years or less.
One of those crazy things that will practically only go up in value.
Rich get richer. Those with the means and privilege to buy a LaFerrari/P1/918 will get to experience the absolute pinnacle of today's automotive engineering....and make a LOT of money doing it when the value skyrockets after they sell out (instantly).
That's the life. Buy a LaFerrari, drive it for a year or two, sell it for six or 7 figures more than it cost you.

BTW VinWiki's youtube channel has tons of great content if you are into cars and car stories about people who buy/sell/own exotics.
The founder is a young guy who currently holds the NYC to LA record at like 28 hours and some change. He was a lambo salesman and has some great dealership stories. Definitely check out the other vids on that channel if you like good car stories.

This all sounds like shite the government overpays for.
Except they'd end up with a base model Chrysler 200.

I think Alex Roy has the record at 26hrs and change. Quick Google shows the Vinwiki guy has won some cross country races for particular era cars and what not. 28-30 hr range which is still pretty frickin fast.

tires and wheels every five years I remember Jay Leno talking about it. Though even though i thought it crazy in 1996 to pay $1million for a car, they are worth $15m now so really a great investment.

The Whittington Brothers story on VINWiki was great as well.
Also. Since this was recorded, Mclaren has opened up an ‘F1 Service Center’ in the US outsid of Philadelphia so owners don’t have to ship the cars back to England for servicing, and I think I read somewhere they’ve built an emulator so they don’t need the old Compaq fossil computers to run diagnostics anymore. Still probably very expensive but they’ve eliminated some logistic costs I presume.

There is a guy in Baton Rouge that has one, and numerous high end exotic cars

Tires on the Bugatti are $20K each, and only good for 2-3000 miles. Fwiw

$50 G's for a set of tires? BS! I only pay $10 G's for a set for my Lambo!

If you can afford the car, the maintenance is negligible.

If you own a McLaren, you really don’t give a shite about how much things cost

sounds like a lot of money to sit next to me in traffic

My butler has a car like that

think you could go down to Central America, harvest your own rubber, create a mold, recycle you own steel, and still come in under 50k for 4 tires.
Tires aren't made from real rubber fwiw. It's synthetic rubber made from oil products

I bet poncho the illegal Mexican at my local tire shop could balance those tires for 20 bucks a pop

The reality is those cars don't make much from sales due to the cost, so they make their money by siphoning off maintenance costs from the few owners that do exist

No, Roy lost the record to Ed Bolian. Roy has a record of 31:04 which beat the previous record of 32:07. Bolian has the record of 28:50 which Alex Roy disputes is quite possibly fraudulent. And somewhere in all of that, Richard Rollins in still claiming to be faster that Roy because he ran the "real" cannonball route.
