I had a neighbor who was the head of the LSU Police department and he and my dad went fishing at Leeville. The Golden Meadow Police Chief pull him over for speeding 2 miles over the speed limit. They didn't know he was the Chief of Police at that time. The officer walks up and asked for driver's license while explaining the my neighbor was clocked at 2 miles over the speed limit. My neighbor opened his wallet and showed the officer his badge. The officer snapped back and said, why are you showing me your badge and not giving me your driver's license? My neighbor responded with, well I was only 2 miles over and can you show a fellow officer of the law the common courtesy of just a warning? That is when they found out that the officer was the Chief of Police. The officer said, I am the Chief of Police and this is my town. No one breaks the law in my town and gets away Scot free. My neighbor complained about this guy for years to us, his fellow officers at LSU and anybody who would listen to him. Then one Saturday night a few years later while my neighbor was in the helicopter monitoring the traffic after an LSU game he was contacted by one of his officers on the two way radio. The officer explained to my neighbor that he has a drunk driver and that this guy says he is the Golden Meadow Chief of Police and he should let him go due to officers common courtesy. His question to my neighbor was, Do you want to tell him in person or should he just bring him to jail? As my neighbor tells the story; he said he will tell him in person and just hold him until I get to you. He walked up to the Chief of Police and said you probably don't remember me, but I will tell you the way you told me when you gave me a ticket for speeding 2 miles over the speed limit. You are now in my town and I will not let you get off Scot free, you will go to jail for DWI. My neighbor would say, "there is a God". May my neighbor RIP, but I will remember his story until the day I die.

There's no reason a town that small should even be incorporated and have its own police department. Same for Lockport up the road. The parish sheriff should be taking care of that.
While I am not connected to the town, the town exists for one reason. The town got tired of always depending on Thibodaux or seeing “up the bayou” getting things done before the southern part.
It was incorporated 75 years ago, and the town held a celebration of its anniversary last weekend.
If it was up to me, the entire 10th Ward should be incorporated into one city. Louisiana law sets a city at a population over 5,000 people.
One advantage with the way the taxing laws of Louisiana make it advantageous for a city or town to form is because the sales tax generated in the city or town stay in the town instead of going into the parish’s budget. See St. George formation besides the eventual dream of forming their own school district.
For example about 25 years ago Lafourche parish wanted to pass a parish wide sales tax to repave parish streets in the parish excluding the city of Thibodaux. But the rub was and still is that most northern Lafourche parish residents that live outside the city of Thibodaux buy their groceries and goods in the city of Thibodaux so the city of Thibodaux benefits from the tax dollars generated from residents that live outside the city limits and the parish would not generate any revenue in the northern part of the parish.
The tax failed because 10th Ward residents voted against it because they felt the streets in Thibodaux would get paved first while the southern end would generate all the revenue with Port Fourchon and other shopping centers in the south and central areas that were not in Golden Meadow or Lockport.
Eventually it passed after they divided the parish into districts and got the roads repaved that way. I think they finally merged the taxing districts a few years ago when they did a tax swap to shift the sales tax to teacher pay and added a garbage fee in lieu of the parish sales tax on garbage.

Tarps99....a history lesson for you. I have FIRST hand knowledge the Tenth Ward was almost the 65th parish 50 years ago.
Then state rep D.Guidry had a bill in progress to make South Lafourche the new parish. At the time, only simple majority was needed to make it law.
However, Senator {Crook} Peltier in thibodaux got wind of it and pushed through the vote should be 65-70 % to let it pass.
The Peltier family screwed a lot of french [non english] speaking people in South LaFourche out of oil rich land . They only knew how to sign legal papers with the letter X.

They insisted that they keep my license until they got cash for the ticket. I didn't have that much cash and they weren't taking credit cards.
happened exactly that way to me also. I had to spend most of the night in an orange jumpsuit while my friends drove down from New Orleans with the cash
I couldn’t believe it

Thanks for the history lesson. I know some stories too. My family had some land stolen from them just south of the corporation.

I grew up right north of the corporation and lived in leeville for a stint.
We live south of thibodaux now. It makes me sad to see how "daypuy" it is there now. So much trash. Seems like since Ida it got worse.
He turned himself in, but I see a bunch of people on Facebook saying the truth will come out and how they don't like the new chief. Not sure how she got voted in if so many people disliked her

He should be made to pay the next 350 speeding tickets issued to motorists in Golden Meadow.

Those pisssnts deserve whatever "police chief" they get.
Their town is a joke and they use a little girl's death as an excuse to steal from honest peolple.
(The story was a little girl got killed by a speeder 50 years ago so now they rigorously enforce the speed limit. Probably a lie, but IDK.)

Good. I got a ticket there when I was 16 for going 1mph over. frick them.

What has always boggled my mind is a citation for 5MPH and under goes straight to the state so what is the purpose writing them other than possibly finding a secondary or more offenses.
Being a police officer my entire career we were NOT writing that and would actually be reprimanded for wasting time and money fooking with it. Very few instances do you use 1-2-3 over for PC traffic stop. Very few.

NEWS RELEASE
August 7, 2025
AG Murrill's Louisiana Bureau of Investigation arrests former Golden Meadow Chief of Police for Injuring Public Records, Malfeasance in Office, and Computer Tampering
Agents with Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill's Louisiana Bureau of Investigation recently arrested the former Chief of Police for the Town of Golden Meadow for Injuring Public Records, Malfeasance in Office, and Computer Tampering.
The Louisiana Bureau of Investigation (LBI) received a request for assistance from the Lafourche Parish Sheriff’s Office regarding allegations of official misconduct.
Sheriff’s officials reported that Troy Dufrene, former Chief of Police, Town of Golden Meadow, had tampered with records maintained within a case management system owned by the Sheriff’s Office and shared with the Golden Meadow Police Department. It was also reported that Dufrene, who had lost the recent police chief election, took these actions after the election and just prior to vacating the office.
During this investigation, LBI agents discovered that Dufrene had intentionally deleted over 12 years' worth of records maintained within the internal case management system. These records included traffic citations, fuel expenditures, arrest reports, payroll information, and other important data. Agents also learned that Dufrene’s actions caused significant disruption to the police department’s operations as officials have struggled to retrieve the deleted records. The Lafourche Sheriff’s Office has been working with an outside vendor to help retrieve the data.
As a result of evidence discovered during this investigation, LBI agents secured an arrest warrant for Dufrene through the 17th Judicial District Court.
On Wednesday, August 6th, Dufrene, of Griffin Lane in Golden Meadow, surrendered to authorities at the Lafourche Parish Jail and was booked on felony charges of:
1 Count of LRS 14:132, Injuring Public Records
1 Count of LRS 14:134, Malfeasance in Office
1 Count of LRS 14:73.7, Computer Tampering
His bond has reportedly been set at $15,000.a
