Harassing him works?
Just as juvenile in my opinion

People faking to be soldiers are pretty lame, however, getting pissed about it and acting like a child can be just as lame.

How would you 'shut the jackass down maturely'? What are a few of your several different approaches? I'm honestly curious.

You walk up to him, ask some questions to prove he's lying (as the guy did in the video).

Then instead of fricking yelling for the world to hear about how the guy is full of shite, recording the whole situation, demanding he take off the uniform in public and chasing him to the point of getting arrested for harassment, you just calmly and coldly tell the guy, matter-of-fact, how he's full of shite, that you're a Ranger, etc. etc. and tell him to GTFO.

Cool, calm, collected. Not like a raging lunatic that needs to lay off the steroids.

Or you just don't let insignificant small shite like that get to you. You recognize that anyone delusional or otherwise idiotic enough to front about being a soldier isn't going to be convinced by an encounter like this to stop doing it, and you don't let the jackass get under your skin like that. This is really trivial in the grand scheme of things. Some dude's fronting about being a soldier. So what?

I stand by what I said: each person involved in this looks like a complete tool. Like someone said earlier, there are no winners here.

I work with several recently ex military. They are the most annoying people I've ever worked with. While I can appreciate the service they are horrible to work with.

2 marines - the older one is better but the younger one acts like he is still enlisted and our company should adopt all of his rules.
2 army - think they were hired because they are better than everyone. They constantly mess up and we can't wait to transfer them when their rotation is up.
2 navy - the calmest of the group but very arrogant and can't go 5 min without a navy story that goes on and on without any end.

They aren't used to the working world that we are and it takes years for them to adjust.

Guy comes over and tells me that he went shooting in BTR with a doctor (that I know personally) who is a Navy Seal Reserve - I said, there is no such thing as a Seal Reserve. He then asks, "Is he really a doctor?" I LOL'd and said, "yes, yes he is actually a doctor"

I just don't understand why the guy who was actually in the military couldn't just say something to the effect of "Hey man, I know you aren't actually an Army Ranger and I'd appreciate it if you'd respect the position by not impersonating them."

That's what I would have done, but, I'm an officer.

You cannot expect every last young enlisted combat veteran to respond to that situation with complete diplomatic aplomb. Maybe YOUR sheltered world is like that, but the World is not like that.

My personal belief is that these Stolen Valor dudes are mentally ill, but, my personal beliefs don't rule the world.

If the US electorate really cared about the Stolen Valor issue, we'd have stronger criminal laws against the practice. I realize that the US electorate really does NOT care enough about this issue because the practice is not strongly criminalized.

Dude is like 50-60 and saying he was in the Korean War. I guess he has been hitting up the bars trying to get free shite and attention. Guy standing next to him, that I cut out, is Army SF. He was not amused, but unlike the OP's story. did nothing crazy

Chemlight batteries... HaHa.

This guy sticks out like a sore thumb. Looks like he is in his 20's and he's and E-8, funny. They always screw up the miss matched rank, age and patches/badges. I have blown so many posers it is ridiculous. I travel a lot so I come across them frequently. I ask just a couple questions and then I start laughing. I don't get agressive but I just tell them calmly they are a fraud and should be ashamed. They usually walk off but if they try and defend themselves and get stupid I return it.

Should have clarified. Yes - Actual Navy Seals who served Active Duty, not some standby civilian who took ROTC in college. At any rate, the guy is caught up in some weird fetish that is comical.

Team 17,18 are reserve units. You can still go through the normal SWCC reserves route to become a seal. You don't have to of been active duty. So an ROTC commisioned active naval reservist can definitely become a seal.

These guys that do the calling out always end up looking like the douchbags in these videos.

Is it silly to fake being a military veteran? Yes, but cursing, shouting, and making a scene about it is even worse. I am sure that faker wasn't doing any harm.
