A mint condition 1952 Topps Mickey Mantle baseball card has sold for $5.2 million through PWCC Marketplace, shattering the previous trading card record of $3.9 million paid last August for a Mike Trout rookie card.

The card was purchased by Rob Gough, the entrepreneur/actor behind the brand DOPE. It was graded by Professional Sports Authenticator (PSA) as a 9 on a scale of 10 and is one of only six of its kind in existence.

Topps began making sports cards in 1952 for the first time, making the ’52 set a popular one to own. Due to that popularity, “even common cards in mint condition can fetch over $1,000.” In 1952, five-card packs cost a nickel.

Probably better odds to win the lottery than those existing and getting that money.

The 1951 Bowman is the real rookie. I don't know why the 1952 Topps is called a rookie card. It's the first Mantle Topps card. The 1952 Bowman Mantle is the prettier card in my opinion compared to the 1952 Topps.

I have a better chance of winning the lottery than finding a Mickie Mantle rookie card in some box in the attic.

Where could I get a rough appraisal on baseball cards?

The most valuable one I have is probably a Barry Bonds rookie card.

It’s a PSA 9 card. Meaning someone opened a pack in fricking 1952 and had it graded immediately. It’s not like it was sitting in a shoe box getting bent up

What’s your point on this? PSA is pretty well respected, it’s why psa 10 Charizards are going for $350,000

Friend,

I’d rather Black Berry.

In terms of collecting, 1993 Christopher Radko ornaments are going to pop soon.

There's a couple of rare ones worth quite a bit actually.

This Desert Shield limited edition one is around $5K if it's 9.5 grade or above. Was given to soldiers in the middle east.

Apparently there are only about 6 left in the world and who knows what condition they are even in
They were thrown into the water somewhere and most were lost

There was a local doctor that passed away back in the 80's that was a friend of his, probably had all kind of autographed merchandise.

Mantle was known to gamble
