Looking to buy a new expedition or suburban. A comparable suburban is $3-5K more, but they also appear to hold their value better. I have never owned an ecoboost engine in any vehicle. Mostly concerned about long term value and dependability. YEs, I am aware that they are crazy expensive, but not sure how much longer we can wait and prices don't appear to be going down substantially anytime soon (unless I am missing something) Thoughts?

Had an expedition.. loved that car.. was for my wife.. use to be sold as fitting in the garage. Was 6 inches shorter than suburban.. we kept ours in the garage .. it was a tank… my wife got hit from behind by a sedan.. the sedan hood was bent and front grill tore up.. and general damage.. had her expedition looked at.. it had a scratch on the rear bumper.

All of the large SUVs have their reliability issues, so pick your poison:

Expedition - eco boost problems are well documented

Sequoia - new engine this year already having major issues

Suburban/Yukon XL - notorious lifter failures and tranny issues

Wagoneer - beautiful vehicle, but laughably unreliable

I see more old expeditions still on the road than any other full-size SUVs

We went with the ‘23 Z71 suburban about 3 months ago after battling the same decision. Absolutely love it and woulda done it sooner looking back.

Laughably unreliable? I’m legit curious if you can give some examples?? I hear this a lot here but personally have had zero issues.

Go with the Ford.

If you’re ever in a high speed police chase in the Suburban and crash, it might catch fire and burn you alive.

Just my $0.02.

Ford. If you spend a little more, buy Infiniti QX80

The classic "I've had this for 3 months and love it" response.

Yep, I’ve personally never owned anything but Toyota’s. Wanted the sequoia to work but unfortunately they just made it into an overpriced oversized 4Runner. It’s not an optimal family vehicle.

Wife had an Infiniti and it was having issues at 140k miles.

Everyone I’ve ever known to have a Ford had it in the shop relatively quickly.

There’s no comparison to the suburban in capacity.

See if it has a CVT transmission. I just got a 2023 maverick (company vehicle) and it has that.

We are on our 7th suburban/Yukon. Have kept all right up to or just over 100k miles. I’ve changed one AC compressor. Out of all 7 vehicles, that’s the only repair. I’ve had fantastic service from them. Would and will buy another when the time comes.

The three fords trucks I had during that span were plagued with issues.

On my 4th Expedition. Traded the others in on new one when they each hit 200,000 miles. Took between 8-10 years. Never had any problems at all with any of them and i don’t do much preventative maintenance other than oil change/ air filters.

We got the Max instead of the Yukon XL. It was almost 10k cheaper, but we didn't end up with the headrest screens like the Yukon had.

Also interest rates were 1%ish and 3%ish for ford va 7 to 11 for GM. So there's that too

I’m a huge Toyota fan. I own 4 of them currently. Their reliability and durability are second to none. The ride and technology in a suburban or expedition are only things that makes them worth looking at and they are not insignificant things.

Either a GM Yukon or Chevrolet Surburban with either the 5.3L or 6.2L V8. There's no way I would own a 7500 lb vehicle with a 3.5L V6.
