For those with upcoming doctor appointments, don't just call to confirm ..

(This specifically was an ortho office)

Call and ask if there is anything in place to monitor those who come in AND ask if there are any restrictions as to who can go in. Without relating a long story, this facility was asking if patients had been to New Orleans in the past two weeks. If your answer was YES, your appointment was getting rescheduled (maybe not for post op cases but certainly for new ones and some follow ups).

So even if you get an automated call to confirm an appointment, I'd seriously call and ask what will they be doing upon patient arrival and get a heads up on questions that they'll be asking -- your being seen may depend on your answers.

Hope this saves someone time and frustration.

Just had one of my appointments cancelled and they can't reschedule until July. Ugh, guess its better than risking the chance of getting sick though.

Honestly it'd be easier for everyone if these offices could set up a convenient way to voluntarily cancel non-crucial appointments without having to talk to anyone.

My wife spent like 30 minutes doing this yesterday. I assume a lot of places (like my pcp) allow you to do everything online, but some still don't.

My psychiatrist and I are switching to phone calls instead of in office visits.

We had to go to an ortho yesterday, my damn 3 year old broke his leg last week and already rubbed a hole in his cast from crawling on the ground... took our temps and only allowed one parent back, but were in and out in 20 min.

Will be interesting in a month when he scheduled to have this cast removed and new weight bearing cast put on.

Better advice is to use Telehealth for everything if possible.

I had other issues with them this morning and they knew I was frustrated. The office clinical nurse manager called me and I politely cut her off to save her breath ... I work healthcare and realize why they do what they do. I focused on suggesting that they CALL PATIENTS THEMSELVES to confirm and not use the automated system and PRESCREEN patients. The NOLA question could be asked, answered and patient told to come or reschedule. I realize this could be more time consuming BUT it would alleviate some potentially nasty people.

She said that the scheduling people there were misguided in their answer to me when I called to see if I could accompany my son to his appointment. Not my fault and that needs to be worked out if they're not wanting to put every call through to the nurse. The CNM said that they are working on communication. I told her to tell the financial people that since they sent me home, they could mail me a bill -- I am the payer source, not my son.

All of that said, I get it .. totally. They need to adjust their way of handling things to alleviate upset patients/caregivers.

When it can be used, yes. Can't pull pins out or cast a fracture that way. But I do agree when it can be used, use it.

I called this morning because I'm supposed to get my boys snipped in two weeks. It's still on, but I'm not too crazy about the idea and starting to geek out a little bit (about the procedure).

Our pediatrician sent out a message last night that only well babies can come in and only one parent. Temps will be taken at door of both baby and parent.

Sick patients will do a video appointment and go from there.

My mom (73) was scheduled to go in for a consult tomorrow. I told her to cancel.

Probably a good call. No sense taking a chance exposing someone to the virus over a routine visit. They can be done at another time.

I have 2 upcoming procedures that have been planned for over a month and will call in a week to see if they are still on. Neither one is an absolute necessity, so putting them off for a while is OK by me.

I was on New Orleans less than 2 weeks ago. Am I fricked? I would be lying if I said didn’t feel a bit blah today.

Truly don't know berg. Just wanted to share that to save anyone time and frustration. Call your family doctor maybe and just inquire? My daughter was there for MG but she's fine and has been home for about 10 days for her spring break/extended break and we're all good at least as of now.

Had an appointment scheduled about 4 months ago for tomorrow. They called today to cancel and rescheduled for June. Said they can only currently see acute patients and that if you come in now not sick, you would definitely leave there sick.

An older in-law went to the VA yesterday for a couple of doc visits. He is there often for various treatments.

One doc told him not to come back on the premises until this is over.
