Yeah you're getting ripped. 175 seems like a reasonable price for what you have.

If you sign up for dish or direct tv make sure you look around before signing up on their website. For example, if you sign up through SAMs sometimes they'll give you a free iPad on top of all the direct tv / dish promotions. If you sign up at the mall kiosk, they were offering a saints jersey and $250 to the saints store on top of all of the other dish promotions. Just something to look into. Btw I had the same thing happen with cox in January. I'm now a proud roku 3 owner with hulu plus, and amazon prime.

So which is better, DTV or Dish? All I watch is sports and need cartoon stuff like nick jr for the kids.

Yep did that last month. When you tell them you are cancelling they transfer you to "The Loyalty Team" where you deal with them on lowering your bill. I did a 1 year contract. I'll decide if I'm going to stay with them then

People still have landline phones?

I have UVerse Internet for 56 a month (I think) and DTV for about 115 a month (again, I think). My DTV is a decent package, although I don't have any extras (no premium channels, no sports tier).

DTV contract is up this fall.

What I wish would happen would be that ESPN would offer WatchESPN without a TV package. I would gladly pay ESPN directly 10-15 bucks a month for WatchESPN access, dump DTV, and get a faster internet pipe.

My viewing consists of sports (either on the networks or ESPN), and shows that can be streamed online.

Do you have land line telephone with them also? Bundled?

My Cox is about $100 a month less than the numbers you posted and I have all the sports packages and Cinemax. I don't have telephone with them.

That still sounds way out of line unless you have all the premium movie channels. Good luck getting Cox to drop the price for you.

Call them up and see why you've had such a big increase (I've had a few mysterious items added to my bill in the past that I know I didn't sign up for). I called and removed them.

They may have increased your bill to help pay for the 4 billion commercials they run each week.

With the AT&T buyout of DirectTV announcement today, there is no telling what communication services fees will go to with the decline in competition.

They'll probably knock off about 35$ for a year. It's not something you have to honor you can still back out at any time.. it's just locked in from their end.

It sucks how all the new customers get the awesome promotions while loyal customers don't get anywhere near the same.. but I understand how the business works.

Do you absolutely have to have the phone? They'll keep telling you how you are already saving all this money by having the triple bundle, but it's not really true.

Also if you speak to the right person they can get your contour installed for free since you aren't happy. I had dvr, but the old crap and they usually charge a fee to install.. but the guy gave me it for free when I complained about leaving.. what he had to do was credit me the installation fee to my account.. then charge it.. so I never got charged for it.

cox advanced tv (the largest one) + internet preferred (25mb down) is $157.98 without any boxes. add in a whole home dvr box and the rental fee of the modem (unless u already have one) the total is $178.47 and if you want a digital box for any other room it would $8.50 per box..

now like i said on top of that they should be able to give you a $35 off for 1 year promotion. so with just one dvr box and all that you are looking at around $143 + 8.50 for however many additional boxes you want.

i just went through exactly what you are going through and i get your frustration...

people keep bragging about direct tv and dish aren't taking into consideration that you are also paying for your internet and phone.. and also i am sure the more boxes you have with them the more your price will go up as well.. so say they are paying $100 a month for their tv services.. they still may be paying around $50 for their internet.. all i know is att uverse internet is not nearly as nice and cost more.

that's pretty decent, but then say you have internet on the side for around $50 then now you are paying $185ish.. and right around where he needs to be to begin with. i just find it all equals out no matter who you are with.

I say this from experience... be on top of it and beware of the fine print that says they have the option of automatic renewal.
