For those set to graduate after summer semester, you better double-check

A family member is/was set to graduate from LSU after one class this summer. Since summer session may/will likely be online she was told there's a possibility that class won't be offered.
Anyone else in this situation?
Someone suggested checking other universities to see if they offer the class this summer which sounds like a decent idea.

Why would they not offer an online class when people can't get to campus?

I feel like there are usually restrictions on where certain classes are taken to get the degree from a school. Is this family member just needing an elective or is this a senior project capstone type class?

That's probably what I would do.
Mine are already online but we're likely going to have an issue with our Practicum starting in August. Most psych facilities here are not taking on interns because they're limiting number of staff in contact with patients.

I imagine by summer, there will likely be budget cuts across the board at most Universities. That'll definitely effect the availability of courses.

Definitely check other schools. When I was at LSU they had about 15 of us take thermo at southern because it was hard at LSU and we wanted the easier option.

I would imagine the class they needed wasn’t originally offered online and might not be able to be offered online.

most likely because they won't have enough students sign up to justify the cost of running the class, even in an online setting

check with the smaller schools and JUCOs
you'll have to find one that will be accepted for transfer credit
good luck, no clue why this gets downvotes, it's a crappy situation and you can't be the only one with this issue

Can’t speak for LSU, but we are talking about potentially cutting all of our adjunct professors for the fall term if enrollment numbers take a major dip because of covid. If that happens, we probably won’t be able to offer all the same classes since nearly all full-time faculty already have full teaching loads.
Maybe LSU is preparing for similar contingencies, i.e., cutting certain classes in order to offset potential losses if there is an enrollment downturn.

Please explain this "cost" to me -- really, I want to understand. My child of course has moved to online classes and I keep seeing "the cost of online classes" and one class that was online already from beginning of semester had an "online class fee". What are these fees needed for? Obviously something but what?

My only experience with this was taking a Spanish and a History class during the summer at UNO to graduate on time at LSU.

I really can't, since I am not familiar enough with the situation and really do not understand their cost factors
but if I was going to guess, I would say that a professor has to do the same amount of work on class prep whether there are 2 students or 50 & they feel it does not make sense to spend resources on a class that won't justify the expense and time needed to run the class

Okay Karen. Still graduated from LSU and had three fabulous job offers.
