It's basically a calculation of 'velocity' of a thread.

i like the "recent topics" link
I just noticed some guy started a thread on the Travel Board and the Food and Drink Board that I'm interested in, I rarely venture over there so would usually just miss those threads
this format will open all of those boards to more traffic through the "recent" topics link, but still allow people to focus on just their favorite boards if they want

Leave forum links on the left, if you're 20 posts deep on a thread, with some lengthy posts, you need to scroll all the way back to the top just to switch to a new board...not user friendly at all
ETA; a lot of us use desktop layout while on mobile and having to hoover or click to expand board links is clunky

Agreed there needs to be a better way to exit threads.
Maybe add a "return to board" link next to the aforementioned "back to top"
or keeping the TopNav hovering while you scroll

i removed political talk from "My forums" and it still shows under trending

Changing the "sequence" of the display order does not seem to work. I drag and drop the order I want them listed in, but the order does not update.

I like it. Maybe make the purple on the right side white with a light gray divider, center the news stories at the bottom and increase the margin on the left slightly, especially on the reply form.
