For those of you who have to deal with road salt,

How do you protect the underneath of your vehicle? Rust-oleum or fluid film. I have just recently heard about fluid film and was wondering if it's worth using.

I can’t imagine that a life north of I10 is one worth living.

I would hate having to deal with that aspect of car ownership in Winter.
It would accelerate my turnover rate in car ownership.

Yeah, unfortunately rust happens no matter how well we keep them clean up north.

I'm in Ohio and they lay down an inch of salt for every dusting of snow

They've even started doing this in Atlanta, FFS. Probably relates to the thousands of clueless H-1B drivers. Those people are dangerous in perfect weather.
After they put that crap down, I don't drive until there's been a good rainfall. Also, I found a car wash that sprays this hot, sulfurous liquid on your undercarriage. I'll back over the thing that sprays it 2-3 times after I've driven where there's salt.

In St. Louis, it isn't as bad as farther north. Nonetheless, a car wash membership is nice to have. Unlimited washes for $20 a month.

Any vehicle over 7 years old will have rust and corrosion. Makes it extra fun completing repairs on said vehicle.

Can’t you coat the entire under carriage with a rhino liner or something?
Posted on 9/19/20 at 11:51 am to CatsGoneWild
I’ve never found a coating that works well. Just have to make sure you wash it more frequently (as others said, get a membership).

" Yeah, but I'm saying that TruCoat. You don't get it, you get oxidation problems. It'll cost you a heck of a lot more than $500."

Spray it with rustolium.

I go to school in Maine and there aren’t any car washes like Benny’s nearby or I’d do that. I typically do the fluid film but some other people will do a full underside coating with stuff like rhino shield

If you bought a car new up there it probably already has an undercoating. At least both of my trucks did.

Eric O. has a YouTube channel, "South Main Auto", his channel is great and he swears by Fluid Film. Check his channel out.

The south has sea salt. The north has road salt. It doesn’t matter much. Just go to the car wash.

I live in Maryland so same as you. Earlier suggestion is correct. Go to a car wash with undercarriage wash. I have lived here most my life ( age late 50s) and have never spent a penny on any damage or maintenance needed due to road salt.
I cannot stand a dirty car either.
