My negative experiences were typically based on commentary by "friends of friends" through social media. In short, if someone said that they had an issue with homosexuality, "friends of friends" would somehow latch onto the conversation and it would get sideways pretty quickly. In short, it was my observation that acceptance wasn't good enough. It was deemed to be an attack on the homosexual lifestyle by simply disagreeing with it.
I can't imagine chiming in on someone elses semi-private conversation just to be an a-hole. To me, it would be like eavesdropping on people at a park and then cursing them out because I don't agree with their opinion.
It was pretty eye opening.
It was also a reason to get off of social media.

I'm not religious, but I would get blasted on social media if I said something negative about Christians or religion.
Christianity is shoved in my face all the time... literally.
Yet, I still dont let it upset me until it starts to impede on my rights.
That's just social media in general... if you post an opinion on a controversial hot topic someone is going to say something about it. Just go to the political board and say you dont like trump and see how it goes.

I don’t hate individual gay people, I have a couple friends who are gay but other than that they act completely normal and dress normal. I don’t like the flaming gays who shove it in your face and make everything about their sexuality just for attention.
